BBT run completed
Small blog to commemorate first completed run of a BBT squad. I've tried it a few times before over the years but never actually completed it - and this time with 64 days remaining
So at this rate of games I would have time to do my 2nd squad as well. But I think I'll concentrate for a while on non-BBT teams, eg build for tourney

Anyway this season Amazons 4 pts, Norse 3 pts, Vamps 2 pts, which are 3 of my favourite teams. But then need a 0pt one to fill it out, and I've never played Gnomes before

Amazons - 7 / 4 / 4
Bit of a mediocre run for how good the roster is. Had a decent blitzer died after 11 games which hurt them a bit, the final 4 games were then 1 win, 2 draws, 1 loss

Norse - 13 / 2 / 0
At one point they were 12/0/0 which is maybe my best opening run for a team. I was pretty ruthless about minmaxing here, they've not developed much so if they go into Steel Trophy they'll be bit low on TV
I need to choose if I want to maybe go into Steel Trophy as wildcard, or redraft and continue in Iron Dwarf Trophy to chase more wins - can't do both

Vampires - 7 / 3 / 5
Struggled with very low cashflow and getting 2 throwers killed. Started to pick up momentum towards the end of the run though

Gnomes - 5 / 3 / 7
Started off really not enjoying the team, had some awful games, tanked my CR etc. But, gradually adjusted to the roster, and got better dice so then liked it more
See https://fumbbl.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=33361 for more thoughts on playing them

Overall - 32 / 12 / 16 which I'm happy with, currently 46.0 pts
Next squad is Dwarves, Dark Elves, Renegades, Underworld. So much more mid-priced teams

Some bloodbowl haikus
1.
Mud, blood, and splinters—
the elf flies through broken dreams.
Touchdown or coffin?

2.
Dice gods laugh again.
Skull, skull, both down… reroll… skull.
The crowd roars with glee.

3.
Halfling takes the pitch.
Troll winds up a mighty throw.
Out of bounds. He's gone.

4.
Silent under helm,
a blitzer waits for the snap—
then the world explodes.

5.
Death is not the end.
The necromancer grins wide.
"Welcome to the team."

Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #2; Issue #6

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= GAMEWEEK 6 ROUND-UP =
Fouls! Casualties! New stars! Even some passing... This week had it all!

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
An incredible seven players racked up 6+ SPP points this week - and it wasn't always the player you expect...:
7 SPP - Brody Venessa (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
6 SPP - ★ Krenko King of the Goblins ★, Dakka Grimbasha (both Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns), Indestructible (Iron Crag Clawz), ★ Mornrog Groinchewa ★ (Middenland Ironskinz), Gorgrim Webspinna (Badlands Black Feathers), Ivel the Green Javelin (Badlands Brutes)

= CASUALTIES =
For the second consecutive week, just one player managed more than one casualty this week, but it served as small compensation for a narrow defeat:
2 casualties - Murg Bloodstomp (Karak Norn Crusherz)

= BLOCKS =
10 blocks per game is now a benchmark rather than worthy of note:
13 blocks - Grash Bonechewer (Badlands Black Feathers)
12 blocks - Leg Snapper (Iron Crag Clawz)
11 blocks - Urza Spinechoppa (Drakwald 'Ardboyz), Arm Snapper, Brog Droolmaw (both Averland Bat-Squigs), Groznak Smashmaw Ghazburuk Gilgaroth (both Dragonback Squigs),

= TOUCHDOWNS =
The second most prestigious individual award is wide open with several players making a claim for the Golden Glove:
2 touchdowns - ★ Krenko King of the Goblins ★ (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns), Ivel the Green Javelin (Badlands Brutes), Gorgrim Webspinna (Badlands Black Feathers), Indestructible (ICC)

= FOULS =
At last! All franchises have committed the most tantalizing strategy with the unbearably honest and sanctimonious Fanatics finally getting in one the action:
3 fouls - Miranda Hortalus, Skogg Eargrinda (both Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns), Slugg Bonekrakka (Dragonback Squigs)

= RUSHING YARDS =
Defensive plays are becoming more sophisticated and so the days of players waltzing their way from end zone to end zone may well have come to an end:
28 yards - Zagh Slugweava (Estalia Gutrippers)
30 yards - Indestructible (Iron Crag Clawz)
38 yards - Dazlug Mudshredda (Altdorf Bloodhounds)

= PASSING YARDS =
A decent effort with 4 players surpassing the qualifying benchmark:
2 yards - Kragg Goremaw (Drakwald 'Ardboyz), Grunk Gorefang (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
3 yards - Valeria Wargo (Bretonnia Brutes)
6 yards - Thugbo Skulltaker (Karak Norn Crusherz)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there will be awards for some notable players and coaches:

MVP
Home grown super star Indestructible of the Iron Crag Clawz bagged twice against the Piratz, covering 30 yards and making 2 blocks but crucially was involved at every moment in a key win. The Tilean side's unpredictability meant that Indestructible was the man to step up and wrest the game for the hosts.

Golden Clipboard
AutoAxpert (Bretonnian Brutes)
Coach Axpert murderated the Squigs with no less than 8 players - 50% of his roster - earning SPP in the horribly one-sided game. That ended a run of 4 games without a win. Coach D4bbl3z comes a close second as his Scrappers became the first team to slow the Bloodhounds juggernaut, ending their 6 game winning streak.

Best Result
nietizen (Badlands Black Feathers)
MATCHSCORESCORERS
Estalia Gutrippers2★ Z. Slugweava ★, T. Bloodfang
Badlands Black Feathers3G. Webspinna (2), ★ Z. Gorblat ★
A stunning game with 3 one-turn touchdowns in the final 3 turns! The visitors led at half-time before a dramatic Turn 14 equaliser, then the game ended with a flurry of scores that went in the favour of the hosts.

= IN MEMORIAM =
For every winner, there must be a loser and, to give them their (final) moment in the limelight, we recognise those players who left us this week:

‣ Miranda Hortalus (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns) - last week's fouling leader got his just desserts as he was stomped out of this mortal plane by the 'Ardboyz Urza Spinechoppa.
‣ Choppa Bullroar (Bretonnian Brutes) - the Black Orc finished his 6th game for the Brutes being carried off the pitch under a blanket.

With just one gameweek left before the mid-season Trade Window, a full stats update will be released by Blitz 'Dem very soon!

The Mary's Land Terrible Terrapins fall 2-1 in a tough matchup to the Alkhorne State Graves
The Mary's Land Terrible Terrapins continued their struggles in preseason with a forgettable showing against the Alkhorne State Graves. While there were some moments of inspired play on the side of the terrapins, it was overshadowed by their inability to dominate the line of scrimmage as well as the loss of one of their star skinksJaxson  Airy (major - economics). This in spite of the Alkhorne State Graves missing many of their key blockers on the front line.

Harmony One-Love, surprised by the ferocious squirrel, questioning all of her devotion to nature, peace and love

The first half started with the terrapins kicking off and trying to set a defensive line. This included Harmony One-Love (major - underwater biodegradable container construction) facing off against Akhorn the squirrel. Harmony, who is a known lover of nature, thought that the squirrel had just wandered onto the pitch and mistakenly took it as a lovable woodland creature. Akhorn was only too happy to take advantage of her confusion, knocking her to the ground with a brilliant uphill block. Harmony could not quite recover from this for the rest of the game as she spent most of the rest of the game staring into the skies and quiet contemplation, perhaps questioning her value system and the decisions she's made in protecting woodland creatures. This however, left the terrapins line woefully short against the Alkhorne attack. Despite our heroic defense in which Jaxson  Airy was able to come up with the ball, the Alkhorne State Graves were not to be denied and ended up pushing it in for a first half touchdown.

The second half started with Mary's Land taking an aggressive push up one side of the field, seeking the quick equalizer. However, Harmony still was dazed from her initial beating by the hands of a squirrel and was left to contemplate her decisions in the backfield. This all came to a head when coach Lancelott lost his cool and had to be restrained from running onto the pitch and beat some sense into Harmony. In spite of her coaches antics, Harmony was able to clear her head long enough to open up a hole for O. Sean City  (major - business/logistics) to squeak through and tie up the game.

Jaxson Airy seeing his last Blood Bowl match at the hands of a block from Gideon Spottsville

Looking to try to come away with another 1-1 tie, the Terrapins did their best to try to set up their defense and stop the murderous Graves. This was not to be as after some failed rushes by the team and the death of Jaxson Airy at the hands of a block from Gideon Spottsville, there was not much that the Terrapins could do to stop the drive.

Now with one draw and one loss under their belt, the Terrapins look to regroup and salvage what has been overall a mediocre preseason. The job does not get any easier as they are facing the dangerous Michigaunt Wolferines, Coach Lancelot certainly has his work cut out for him.

The Skink Scoop - Bay Reptiles Crash Through Chaos Dwarves
Fresh off a dominating win to start the season, the UMBC Bay Reptiles squared off to face back to back chaos dwarf teams. First up was the Lost Swamp Underminerz

As the Bay Reptiles received the opening kick off, the Underminerz got off to a quick blitz, rushing the ball before the flat-footed reptiles could react. But they drove too greedily and too quickly, and a Bull Centaur slipped to the ground on his way to the ball. Quickly regrouping, Sophomore Saurus Jourdan Grant and Krox Jake Stout each scored a quick casualty, and the lizards recovered the ball.

After a little more back and forth on blocking, a hobgoblin was seriously injured, and newly dedicated fouler Bryce Johnson removed a Bull Centaur with a foul, though they were ejected for their efforts. Down greatly in numbers, the chaos dwarves refused to stand back up to get hit again, and the lizards drove down the field with easy, handing the ball off to saurus Max Curran for the touchdown.

Coming out of the half, the chaos dwarves were able to remove a few lizards with good hits, including a death to a skink, the numbers and strength advantage was just too much, and once more the ball was stolen. In a perplexing move, Curran was once again handed the ball for their second touchdown of the game. The MVP was handed to Stout for their early casualty getting the ball rolling.

On the heels of this victory, the NCBB felt it necessary to match the team up against their second Chaos Dwarf team in a row, against the BGSU Falcons. The Bay Reptiles’ coach’s only comment on such a bash heavy early schedule for the team was just “we’ll play who we’re scheduled to play.”

The Falcons were the first team the Bay Reptiles fast in their inaugural season, where the teams settled for a bloody 2-2 tie. Since then BGSU has gone on a tear, losing only one game in their season in the Non-AQ before winning over Buboe State in the Killer Lite bowl.

So the Bay Reptiles knew they had their work cut out for them going in, especially considering the much more prestigious lizard school of Mary’s Land was only able to eek out a tie against BGSU earlier this season.

Rain poured on the muddy field as the chaos dwarves set up to receive the opening kickoff. While they got some good hits in, stunning a saurus and krox on the line, even with a chainsaw hired for the match, they could not immediately remove any lizards from the pitch. And the rain proved detrimental, as BGSU’s Bull Centaur fumbled the pick up multiple times, allowing JC Harris to slip in and steal the ball. BGSU was able to briefly separate them from the ball again, and knock out saurus Jairus Lyles, though the chainsaw removed himself with his own saw. A solid block removed a flamesmith, and Harris was able to scoop the ball up again on route to a score. While the chaos dwarves fared better at picking up the ball on the next kickoff, they were not able to make their way through the lizard defense before halftime.

Once again, as in the previous game, the Bay Reptiles found themselves unprepared on their receiving kickoff and the chaos dwarves blitzed into their backfield. But the ball was recovered safely, and the lizards used their superior speed to blaze by the BGSU players to the other side of the field. The chaos dwarves would not be able to catch up as UMBC scored a quick touchdown.

The next kickoff would see an end to the thus far relentless rain, and the chaos dwarves started out the drive strong, killing a skink. But even with the better start, they found themselves quickly running low on hobgoblins to screen the ball with, and the bull centaur carrying the ball was quickly surrounded by skinks. Soon the ball would be popped free, and Harris would cruise their way to a third touchdown of the game. For some reason Lyles was voted the game’s MVP, despite being knocked out quite early and never making it back to the pitch.

The atmosphere on UMBC campus has been electric following these huge wins, as the team prepares to finish out the out of conference games over the next two weeks. The team’s coach emphasized that while everyone is excited about the wins, and certainly hyped to face their neighboring lizards in 2 weeks, that they are being careful to lock in and not overlook a good Michigaunt team.
