Instead of performing a Block action (on its own or as part of a Blitz action), this player may perform a "Chainsaw Attack" Special action. Exactly as described for a Block action, nominate a single Standing player to be the target of the Chainsaw Attack Special action, There is no limit to how many players with this Trait may perform this Special action each team turn.

No special actions in blitz! kickoff

Can you explain why, though? I don't read it that way

Blitz: D3+3 Open players on the kicking team may immediately
activate to perform a Move action. One may perform a Blitz action
and one may perform a Throw Team-mate action. If a player Falls Over
or is Knocked Down, no further players can be activated and the Blitz
ends immediately.

You can perform move, blitz and TTM action. Doesnt say you can make special actions

Ok, but blitz-action can contain a block-action
And special-actions can replace block-actions

This is how chainsaw players can move and chainsaw their opponents

That means if it's not between 8am-6pm there is no limit.

Parking signs use logic and while it's annoying it is accurate.

If something says: "You can do this once per turn" that doesn't have any baring here because you can only blitz one target during a blitz action.

If something says: "only one player can do this per turn" still no baring on this.

If something says: "On your team turn, you may -" (like dodge does) then yeah you can only do it on your turn. So during a blitz event you cannot use dodge.

If something says: "Any number of players can do this per turn" then that has no baring on a blitz event either.

This arguement is against the only other logical arguement against being able to throw a chainsaw/stab/projectile vomit/breathe fire during a blitz kickoff event.

To address the illogical arguments:

A blitz action includes a Block action. In the action declaration part of the book it says "Once per team turn, a player on the active team may perform a Blitz action, an action that combines together both a Move action and a Block action (or a Special action granted by a Skill or Trait that can be performed instead of a Block action)."

So you may only blitz once per team turn. So the blitz event is giving you permission to blitz.

If you get given special permission to blitz you can chainsaw instead of the Block portion of the blitz action. It says so right there at the top of the blitz text. Yes it's in brackets but that doesn't change anything.

If you are trying to say that 'because the blitz kickoff event doesn't specifically call out that you can chainsaw then you shouldn't be able to'

Then I say to you : it doesn't specifically call out that you can do a Block either. So by your logic you may not block during the blitz action during the blitz event.

Kind of strange that this ruleset has been out for 5 years and this problem hasn't made it into an FAQ. Its not *that* rare of an occurrence. roughly 8% (give or take for removals) of all goblin kickoffs have this conundrum. And the chainsaw stars were popular early on and now skitter stab stab is a popular one with the stab action. Seems like this would have come up hundreds to thousands of times at this point.

My bet is that they intended special actions to not be allowed during the Blitz! event because they wanted to tone the power level down as much as possible. Similar to how they made a new key term "team turn" so the Blitz! wouldn't allow Dodge or Sure Feet. But the rules as they are written and specifically the first question on page 3 of the last errata makes me think you technically should be able to use those special actions in replacement of the block action baked into the blitz action so long as the special action states it can be used during a blitz.

Regarding the intent - I mean possibly, but honestly I think they just wanted to say, 'Dodge lets you reroll a dodge once' and then they had to add 'per team turn' to clarify what the 'once' means.
But they probably should have said 'per activation'

I don't think there was game balance reasons behind the wording
I don't think they intended to eliminate use of Dodge from Blitz! kickoffs, I think it was accidental

I wouldn't try to read in anything to GW's intent, because my read of it is its haphazard and they generally don't know what they are doing.
