I was browsing through different League Rules and House Rules to find the most insane but fluffy possible additions to a Blood Bowl league.
A lot seems possible and doable with the current League and Clientsettings.

One more basic thing a League Admin can manipulate in league teams is their Treasury and TV. Which could possibly allow a variation of Goblin Gambling aka Sportbets.

So far I found one old House Rule for Sport Bets called "Place your Bets" by Scott O’Neill & Anthony Watts in the League Rules Compendium. It's still based on TeamRatings and doesn't include a concept for betting on Draws. I will add the basic outlines of that House Rule in the first reply.

For now the biggest Issue to me seems to create a smart and automatic odds system.

Any ideas, suggestions or anecdotes welcome.

This is a House Rule by Scott O’Neill & Anthony Watts
(summary, i think it was published in BB magazine 7 so i doubt i should post the exact wording)

It lacks betting on a Draw and is focused on Coaches betting on their own games.

Place Your Bets

Placing The Bet

All Coaches that want to join make secret bets (slip a paper with details of their bet (Coach Name, who wins, win margin, bet amount)) before the game.

Resolving Bets
Insert another step in the Post-Game Sequence before “Collect Winnings” called “Make Pay-Outs”. At this time you can look at all the bets that are stored underneath the board and work out how much everyone gets or has to pay.
Those who placed the bets should make adjustments to their treasuries immediately.

How the Betting Works

Start with the TR of the team you're picking to win. Subtract the TR of the team you're picking to lose.
This produces a number that will be positive if your chosen team is favoured to win, or negative if they're favoured to lose. Then apply said number to the table of bookmaker’s odds.

TR Comparison Table

First numbers is range of TR of winning team minus TR of losing team; second number is winnings

-201 or more; +200%
-101 to -200; +175%
-51 to -100; +150%
-21 to -50; +125%
-20 to +20; +100%
+21 to +50; +75%
+51 t +100; +50%
+101 to +200; +25%
+201 or more;+10%

Example:
Coach bets 10K
Underdog Bet on a team with 100 TR agains a team with 320 TR: +200%, so Coach can actually triple the money
Favorite Bet in same game: +10%, so Coach would hardly make anything unless..

Optional 'point spread'

Team wins by 2TDs or more: multiply winnings by 1.25
Team wins by 3 TDs or more: multiply winnings by 1.5
Team wins by 4 TDs or more: multiply winnings by 2

If you bet the point spread, you have to win the original bet AND the spread to collect!

Betting on your own game

You can bet on the outcome of your own game, in the same manner as described. HOWEVER, despite the heavy kickbacks from the gambling commission, the commissioner’s office is always under heavy pressure (and threat of beatings) to eliminate fixed games.
Roll 1d6
If the coach picked his own team to win:
1 - The league confiscates the gambling winnings!
2-6 - Keep your gambling winnings as normal. If the coach picked the OTHER team to win:
1-2 - The league confiscates the gambling winnings! 3-6 - Keep your gambling winnings as normal.

Ask Nuffle

The most Blood Bowl Way would obviously be to just ask Nuffle what happens AKA throw dice and use a table with possible outcomes.
This seems to be the way the original rules handle everything unrelated to what happens actually on the pitch (Kickoff Table, Injuries etc) and also many circulating House Rules for Events between matchdays.

Like dicing the odds after the matchday (list totally made up now)
Booker/Coach throws a dice 1d6:
1 League officials confiscates all winnings and the Coach is banned from playing Blood Bowl for the rest of their life*
2 Winnings are X*1.2
3 Winnings are X*1.4
4 Winnings are X*1.6
5 Winnings are X*1.8
6 Winnings are X*2

To make it a little bit less random add modifiers.
If a Coach bets on a game with their own team add -1 to the dice result.
If a Coach bets against his own team add -2 to the dice result.
If a Coach bets on an underdog add +1 to the dice result.
If a Coach bets on a favorite add -1 to the dice result.

Obviously underdog/favorite could be adjusted further to react better to different TV Gaps:
TV difference up to 300K +/-1, TV difference above 300K +/-2

And 1 is always Fail/worst outcome and 6 always highest possible modifier.

Purple Pixel Eaters 1580K
WAAAGH!Pombaz 1350K

O'NeilWattsMethod:

Odds for WAAAGH!: 200%(1350-1580=-230)
Odds for Pixel Eaters: 10% (1580-1350=230)
Odds for Draw: none

Nuffle Method:
Odds for Pixel Eaters: 1d6-1, result from table
Odds for WAAAGH!: 1d6+1, result from table
Odds for Draw: 1d6 (?)

*With the league admin being able to edit injuries to players evil twisted minds could also create a "1" where the bookies/fans/other teams visit the team and injure some players (niggles, missing next game, etc)

Still not totally sure about what I have come up. Also not much reaction anywhere to that. So might gve up the idea for a Gambling system.
But maybe some other Coaches have a fluffy and good idea?

This is the last thing I made on the Ask Nuffle method.

Gambling

Despite being illegal for members of the XXXL Leeg to participate in league related Sport Bets Coaches may visit Gunther the Gobbo to bet on the outcome of any upcoming league game.
Coaches can bet up in 6 tiers 10K, 20K, 30K, 40K, 50K or their whole current Treasury on the outcome on any upcoming match.
Coaches can bet on the result of any upcoming match and on any amount of upcoming matches.
Gunther collects the bets and will pay back any winnings at the beginning of the upcoming Team Management Phase.
Despite having no official affiliation with the XXXL Leeg any lost Betting Money mysteriously reappears in the league's Patty Cash.

Odds & Winnings:

The odds and winnings are based on 1d6 and modifiers. If the Coach placed a bet on the right result roll a 1d6, add modifiers to the result and compare with the Gamblin Table

Gambling Table
1 League officials confiscates all winnings
2 Winnings are X*1.2
3 Winnings are X*1.4
4 Winnings are X*1.6
5 Winnings are X*1.8
6 Winnings are X*2

Modifiers (stack)
If a Coach bets on a game with their own team add -1 to the dice result.
If a Coach bets against his own team add -2 to the dice result.
If a Coach bets against for own team add +1 to the dice result.
If a Coach bets on an underdog add +1 for to the dice result.
If a Coach bets on a favorite add -1 to the dice result.
Add/Substract additional +1 for 100K TV difference on underdog/favorite bets.
If a Coach bets on a draw add +1 for every additional 100K TV difference.
If the game in question is between two teams sharing the same amount of points during regular season or face off during the XXXL Cup add +1 to the dice result.
Add +1 for every other Coach betting on the same game.
1 is always worst result, 6 is always best result despite modifiers.

A Coach can further raise potential winnings by adding Special Bets to their Bets.

+2 Touchdowns difference for the winning team + 10K to winnings
+3 or more Touchdowns difference for the winning team +30K to winnings
Specific Player scores 1 Touchdown +10K to winnings
Specific Player causes CAS +10K to winnings
Specific Player suffers CAS +10K winnings

A Coach can make individual bets on several games of the upcoming matchday or combine several games into one Chain Bet.
Chain Bets multiply the winnings (after modification) of the individual games.

Example: A Coach had the right results on three game and chained the bets.
Gambling roll results are after adding and substracting individual modifiers 2,2 and 5.
Winnings are now (X*(1,2*1,2*1,Cool)K or (X*2.59)K
Potential Special Bets will be added to the winnings.

It's certainly a problem that betting on a clear favorite (500K difference) would result in an automatic loss unless a coach rolled a 6.
However, curious if someone comes up with something.
Have a nice day
