So I'm starting in a tabletop league this weekend. Goes for 8 games then finals. I'm running Dark Elves & I'm relatively new to them, though I've tested them a little on cyanide. My question relates to the two most common starting rosters. 4 Blitzers, a runner, 6 lineos & 2rr or 3 Blitzers, a Witch Elf, 7 Lineos & 2rr. I understand that the four blitzers is a bit safer for a new coach but I feel if I don't get the Witch Elf early & skill her up while opponents lack tackle & MB then she'll be a sitting duck coming in later.
What do u guys think? |

I think anyone who takes a runner is insane. |

4 Blitzers
7 Linemen
2 RR
10k treasury (or 1 FF in a non-progression environment) |

With the runner I figure the extra movement makes up for the less armour & even though dump off is more of a novelty access to pass skills is something I won't get anywhere else. Seems better than just saving 10k |

I think d.e. blitzers are the best value players in the game in general, but the witch is still worthwhile because having just one player on the team with frenzy completely changes the opponent's positioning options.
I would also pick the runner over just not spending the 10k, if nothing else so that you can take leader later. But the benefit of having a witch is greater. |

Witch elfs become great players but they are expensive and vulnerable at the start - your opponent will target her and if she goes you lose a lot of TV on a 1000 side. Personally I get the four blitzers first, they are your core players and very good ones too, plus you need to start skilling them first. IMO buy the witch Elf next once you've saved some cash. |

I always take the witch over the runner. They both have the same stat line, but the witch has the vastly better skills (even if frenzy can be a danger to both you and your opponent).
Witch vs blitzer is not that clear, but the witch does offer a few new options...yes, frenzy is great, on DEs you can use it surgically. It discourages opponents to hug too close to the sidelines and it is a poor mans tackle vs runaway dodgers due to the higher amount of block dice thrown. And dodge is dodge.
I almost always start DEs with a witch |

Since it is a short league I'd advise treating the witch as a catcher rather than a blitzer if you start with her.
Once she has block or wrestle then start using her for hit and run blitzes |

I know for a fact that the runner had nothing to do with that.
Runners are pure trash, you have such better options available in witches. I mean you think a witch is 'too fragile' even though they start with dodge and jump up is actually a really useful skill for 'surprise' surfing.
Have you actually looked at the skills the runner starts with? |

Runners have their place in a developed team but I wouldn't say so early on. Dump off is an annoying skill but needs others to make it work. |

I just laughed cause it was so absolutely contradictory to licker and you've got coaching chops for days. |
