Now I understand what you mean.

I found this guy: https://fumbbl.com/p/about?c=Chavrouze51

His last match shows a higher rating than his about page. The graph only seems to show up until his last match and will probably only show the decay once he plays again. But his CR has decayed.
So maybe decay is just very slow?

Yes you got the point.

The decay is showed in the graph only when he plays again a competitive match where the general ranking page https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=coaches is refreshed after the decay period.
And yes... I have impression that decay period is very slow.

A bit of clarification from someone who knows what's going on:

Rating decay in the current system is a function r' and RD'. RD' will increase primary for two reasons:

1. An upset is recorded (unexpected win or loss).
2. No games are recorded within a rating period.

Either of these will have a negative effect on the visible rating.

Now, I am intending for a rating period of two days, but despite the CR recalculation script I have adhering to that rating period, there is currently nothing that "ticks" over the rating period, and as such there is no decay in place in the live ratings. This is a bit of a problem overall, and I need to get around to implementing that rating period "tick" at some point soon.

The reason it's not running is that I'm contemplating if I should bother with dynamic rating periods or not (which the code currently doesn't have support for). Meanwhile, I'll re-run the CR recalculation script and the appropriate decay should be applied to those of us who don't play regularly enough Smile

Thanks Christer. I've still not played a [C] game since my last post, my CR has now gone up 21 points and my rank by ~20 places ??

(I was on CR 1719 at rank 70 or so
Today I'm on CR 1740 at rank 52, r' = 1763, RD' = 87, σ' = 0.0800)

Yesterday I was rank 7 Overall, today I'm rank 2 Overall, I gained 5 places. I guess the rankings have been updated/recalculated. Thanks for the work, Christer!

Yes, until I sit down and get the automated rating period tick going, I'll have to periodically recalculate ratings manually. It's an integral part of the system, and essentially keeping it all in one rating period deteriorates the quality over time.

Thankfully, it's not hard to do the full recalc, just takes a couple minutes (for now), so it's not super critical to sort out immediately. I'll get to it soon though.

Thank you Christer for the explanation on the way CR is refreshed-

After the CR refresh I experienced the following: my rating yesterday was 1594, RD =35.
Now after the refresh the RD changed to 52 and r'=CR = 1577 (drop of -16). Probably I need now to play some more match to have some adjustement

What I have noticed too is that looking some coach the decay effect was slower despite their higher RD' value

Same example (Spartako forgive me is nothing personal Laughing just that you are the first i found in the CR page with RD>75)

https://fumbbl.com/~Spartako
last C match played
https://fumbbl.com/p/match?id=4435169
CR 1872 (actual)
RD'= 111
Yesterday CR was 1878

So CR decay is 1878-1872 = -6

I would have expected more because the formula and high RD' value
CR = r' - 2 * Max(RD' - 75, 0)

Then there is the example of Sp00keh who despite the high RD and no game played got the CR increased.

My RD isn't actually that high, at 87. I don't remember what it was before the recalc
It's giving me 23 points of CR decay, which is just 1 or 2 matches which seems reasonable

RD needs to be at least ~74 before CR is different from r'
Edit: Ah, 75. as per that formula

It starts at (or its max value is) 150
The lowest I saw is Mattdakka who played last night and plays a lot of games, at 43

But yea, I've no idea why my CR went up signficantly.
Does it mean it recalculated old gains? So my historic opponents are now calculated to give me more gains, because their CR at the time is now valued higher? Seems odd

asitaka, ranked 104th has the full -150 points of CR decay
games 119, record 89/13/17, WR 80%
r' 1838
RD 150
σ' 0.08
CR 1688

Last [C] game was 2022-06-30, so yea this makes sense.
Without decay (so just based on r') they'd be ranked 14th

How does one reduce RD?

It doesn't go to 0 immediately after playing a game
Is it just reduced a little bit every time you play a game?

What does this: ⇓ mean, on a match report?

eg
TV 1290k+50k Underworld Denizens
Legend ⇓ CR 1880 (-28) Gnoblar

The arrow means that the coach rank has changed, so for example, if you drop from Legend to Super Star there will be a down arrow.
If you go from Super Star to Legend rank the arrow will be up, instead.
