I’m painting up a bunch of teams; I’ve been carrying boxes of minis around with me through five house moves over 30 years, and it’s serious shit-or-get-off-the-pot time…
And I’m trying to figure out how to indicate skills on painted minis. I was thinking of some sort of icons around the edge of the base, but that might be really hard to paint.
Has anyone else ever done something like this? |

Various companies make little accessory skillrings that replace the base, or fit onto the base. And then have little markers that clip on to show skills
A lot of people also use loom bands, which are different coloured small elastic bands, the kinds kids used to use to make bracelets
If you paint them on, what happens when they skill up?  |

I've written them on the rim with fine detail marker pen or paint, if I know its going to be a long time effort (say block on a bull centaur)
Or made an extra rim to write the skills on
Or put on a piece of mask tape to write on |

If you dont mind having sligtly different painted minis, one idea that works especially for tourney (where there is usually only one skill) may be painting the helmet, maybe using the NAF color code.
or painting the gloves i.e. for MB / Tackle
in my view, skill-rings are the best choice for league teams, using the most important skill in case of multiple (i dont like multiple rings on a miniature) |
