My First Blog: On Underworld
So I've decided to write a blog about bloodbowl related stuff that crosses my mind. My first blog ever really, not something I usually do, but I think it might be fun.

So I have a few topics on my mind I want to write about, the first one will be on my underworld team.

A few weeks ago, after a board game match, I had a conversation with my friend Lars about what races are competative in Bloodbowl. I played a few games with Underworld in fumbbl beta and have a very high opinion of them, while he said they might be fun but could not stand up to first tier teams. I strongly disagreed, but there was no way to settle the argument. So I made a Underworld team in Blackbox to see if I could prove how good they really are. I've played 13 games with the team so far, won 6, lost 5 and beat teams like Chaos, Skaven, Orcs and Humans.

So what did I learn:

a) Underworld can stand up to every team (besides dwarves or chaos dwarves) and have a good chance of winning, so I think I was right with my assessment.

b) They are probably the hardest competative team to play. Goblins, halflings or ogre might be even more of a challenge to play, but you can't really expect to win alot of games with them, they are inherently flawed and just fun teams. Underworld on the other hand scores so fast and easily that your opponent is hard pressed to keep up. What is so really hard in playing the team is that you are almost always outnumbered on the field even if you field 11 players before a kick-off, simply because goblins get knocked out so easily. So it's a real challenge for an experienced player, but I believe one that pays off. I get alot of satisfaction from imagining the faces of people then they realize the just got outplayed by basically a bunch of goblins on drugs. :)

c) What is really a problem for the team is when an opponent stalls extensively. There is not really much I can do against it, even with a goblin with two heads and horns. Without wrestle or stripball, the chances to take down a ballcarrier are only 1/2 with a 1/6 chance you go down instead. Those not too bad chances rapidly dwindle when the opposing ballcarrier has block, dodge and/or guard assists. In some games I simply had to accept that there was nothing I could reasonably do to get the ball, and I either started making casulties with my troll or my blitzers, or if I had already taken a beating I just left my players prone and sat it out. Either way it bored up the game, but I think stalling is an incarnation of lameness anyway, so no surprise there. Best game I had so far with the team was against odi's skaven, because we both tried really hard to score fast and it was really intense and exciting. Thanks again for that game Odi, it really made my day. :)

If your opponent stalls, couldn't you just start bombarding the ball carrier and his cage with goblins?

Interesting first blog entry, in my opinion. :-)

Or get a +ST troll, gives him two heads and break tackle, and watch him dodge inside a cage on a 2+ :D

Ok, ok, it's completely overkill and not a good way to spend skills, but it's fun :D

You could learn how to stop a stall instead of moaning...

Good insights about Underworld, but you sort of messed it up at the end by complaining about stalling. If you are going to play to your team's strengths, why shouldn't your opponent?
