I don't get it!!
Can anyone see the picture? You are sitting at a table, playing a BB game. Your opponent doesn't say anything. No "Hallo" or "Hey", nothing. No "Have a good game", no "hey, that was funny", nothing. The game ends, and he walks away, without even saying "bye".

I have played round 400 games TT, this has NEVER happened. But here on FUMBBL, it happens all the time. When you find a game on gamefinder, or in the box, maybe not every second match, but it is very close.

I don't get it.

On internet the social interation is generally limited, probably because the anonimity of a monitor makes people behave in a less-polite-than-real-life manner.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2015-07-04 13:37:07
Yeah but in your last 15 games I can see Carlo, fidius, pentalarc, Sammler and Jokaero (Prez and Geggster a little before them). Without doubt none of those were like that and gave you a good experience; positive yet competitive fumbbl experience.

So its a case of taking the good with the rough.

You also meet people like me on here Jeguan :P. We should try to get a game going sometime soon.

let the dice do the talking and make him at least scream in anger in real life.

also i have the opposite experience that mattdakka, people in internet seem always much friendlier to me than in real life. don't know why.
Posted by MattDakka on 2015-07-04 13:54:03
@mekutata: play a moba, then tell me again how much friendly the people on internet is.
:D

Silence is better than whining or rudeness imo
but the basics - hello, grats, gg, bye are essential at least
and if he can't chat for some reason then this should be explained in a PM

A quiet Carlo, not possible :) And non of the others too.

LOL mekutata :)

But recent games vs. fidius, Jokaero and geggster, they were all tournament games, not gamefinder or box. And tournament games, are almost always possitive experience. They are why I love playing on FUMBBL.

A bit of "good" whining (so without personal attacks, insults, heavy flaming etc.) spices up the game more than total silence in my opinion (otherwise you have the impression of playing vs an AI, heck, now that I think of it, even the Cyanide AI whines :D).
When I played TT BB (and other GW games) I and my friends used to whine friendly and call each other "lucker" with colourful italian words.
:D

Lead by example.

Talk a lot while winning or losing.

You will likely get some feed-back.

I can see some social interaction most of the time. You must have a really bad break.

It's the magic of internet. Some people don't acknowledge the fact they're playing against real humans, made of flesh and blood. Some don't talk, some will randomly go afk without an explanation, or leave the game and come back to you without an apology (when they come back to you), but fortunately, that's not the majority in Ranked (a bit more in the Box).

When that happens, I generally foul even more, and talk to myself the whole game long. Or I get annihilated and watch my silent opponent stop the game to injure all the midgets I had on the pitch - indeed, that's the worst experience you can have on FUMBBL.

Not everyone speaks the same language either. :D

play Carlo again and you will forget all bad feelings!(and lost maybe 3-5 good players in that process:P)

Accept that the internet is a different medium to RL. If you can't do this then it's on you, not your non chatty opponent. I often don't feel like chatting to my opponent, especially when the dice are not in my favour....

I really enjoy it when people say that the internet isn't real life. What is it then, may I ask? :)

How you behave when you're alone/anonymous is the truest representation of your character.
Posted by Tantibus on 2015-07-04 18:54:08
People don't chat to me as I'm a dickhead.
Posted by akaRenton on 2015-07-04 19:10:46
I'll chatter inanely whether the other person does or not. Many will eventually join in, especially because I cheer damage to my own players too :D

It's part of why I turn down some match ups though, as it's much more fun to chat whilst playing for me.
Posted by Corvidius on 2015-07-04 22:06:17
I know some people have issues with the chat box appearing offscreen. :/
Posted by Arktoris on 2015-07-05 03:06:58
some people aren't good at English
Posted by HammercatFunk on 2015-07-05 03:13:43
me gooder at English then I is at bludbowl
Posted by the_Sage on 2015-07-05 20:13:20
I've steered multiple quiet opponents to move their task bar from the bottom to the side (windows, netbook size), which lets them access chat.
Posted by frogboy on 2015-07-05 21:06:15
I don't chat much as half the client is below the end of the screen. I usually do something like this.

So that I can see the chat at the bottom of the screen but some people get anoyed with me about that too :(

One coach simply said to me 'I wish you'd just shut up'. I appreciate that I may be annoying but with charm like that, it's sadly no surprise that others will be put off saying much.
Posted by keggiemckill on 2015-07-08 05:52:12
I hate talking to Jeguan, as he always says polite and nice things to me during a game. It is sickening. :P
Posted by the_Sage on 2015-07-08 10:25:50
When people get annoyed with my banter, I usually crank it up a notch, becoming sarcastically positive. This is usually to the enjoyment of the specs, and can surprisingly often bring around the opponent too. =D
Posted by albinv on 2015-07-11 07:47:10
Im a bad chatter. People rarely enjoy my chats. Parts maybe at times, but the whole package seems to be annoying.

Can only fail, whether i chat or not.

Im also pretty dim, resulting in english that is an offense to any native english speaker (non english speakers too actually;) and bad coaching that normally just gets worse when engaging in a chat.

Im also bad at typing too and really hate it. It feels degrading to me typing on a keyboard.

Wish id had the strength and discipline to keep it to gl and hf, GG all the time, in the interest of both parties. Unfortunately i seem to turn more shilly-shally the older i get.
