I wish there was a way to block coaches on Gamefinder
Every time I open it up there are a few coaches on there that I just know will never, ever accept a challenge no matter how favourable or fair. This based on the experience of hours spent on there green lighting almost everything. Checking their records it is clear they are heavy pickers, and that's fine: each to their own. It is just annoying to have to click off the 10-15 possible match-ups every 15 minutes (is it?), especially as match-ups appear and disappear and move up and down.

I'd love to be able to just turn them off completely. I suspect this would be bad for the site though, as there would be no way for them to know they had been blocked if they wanted to change their behaviour and accept challenges from a more varied range of opponents.

No I think that's fine, they don't get games, they'll adapt, so they'd get the message eventually. I would presume though that most pickers would avoid you like the plague.

It's the one falling point of ranked. I like the way ranked (apart from the smack scene) regulates what teams are fair. However, you look at the large percentage of heavy ranked players and you'll see that there is a heavy % of vets, rookies and emerging stars on the played list. Shame.

yeah, there are lot of coaches who just will nbot play vs anyone who they consider good, regardless of teams. it's the worst type of cheerypicking.

I don't mind them cherry picking anywhere near as much as I mind them always being there in my face, taking up space on my GameFinder and making it harder for me to find someone who will play me. I've always thought cherry pickers are cheating themselves really.

Solution : maybe the block would be one sided only. So they would still see my teams. Then if they ticked one of my teams the match-up would appear in my GameFinder again, overruling the block.

That's a good solution - there really should be a Do Not Play list you can edit for Ranked.

I think that would be a very useful feature. However, there is a downside large enough to possibly negate any hope of this: If both sides block each other and lots of coaches do this then we could, in two years time with many things having changed have a gamefinder full of teams but look empty to everyone. If coaches aren't proactive managing their blocking (people change over time, maybe you want to block someone for a year, but forever...) then it could be far worse than any interface gains.

Maybe have an expiry date on blocking? Say three to six months? That way we wouldn't just spiral down into that situation.

I just want to block them for a few hours.

While there is a moderate number of coaches that look at the skill summary on the finder and say "2 or more mighty blow, no thanks" there are at least as many hanging out in IRC.

The joy of the Box is there is no refusals. Probably an important factor for one of the best coaches.
NA time zone is very quiet in the evenings so if someone gets in a huff and blocks someone else that just contributes to lack of games. Unless like Drunkagent suggests it is just a short term block.

I'm guessing Joemanji doesn't remember the days of the good old KenThisFinder.

Flip it around and let the pickers do the work for you by introducing a filter for race, TV, coach rank, and skills. That way they can pick away happily and not bother you.

I like to enter a team that is my picker team. My Flings or Ogres. Then when they just request a game with them, and no other, I automatically avoid them entirely. Then again during the week in NA, the games are scarce and one can't be overly choosey.
I've seen some heavy pickers migrate to Box recently which is where I like to see them.
I only accept fair match ups in Ranked. Even TV with even type races. Im am not using my Flings vs Your Min Maxed Dwarves, unless I like you. That can be perceived as a Picker in the right argument. I mainly stick to Box because of this. It's a gamble, and I lose that gamble by getting an unfavorable match then it on me.

Why block when you can dodge?
