Cyanide's Blood Bowl: A first look
Ye dudes. I just bought the game yesterday and Brainsaw forced (:P) me to write a little review.

The game is smoothly running on my system with the lowest possible graphic options, which isn't too surprising with it's Athlon 2,7k+ core, 1GB Ram and a GeForce 6600 GT.

Well let's come to the game. I didn't play too much so far, so my opinions on it could change, but it indeed looks as if it was worth the buy. The Real-Time mode isn't exactly as strategical as the turn-based mode, but the turn-based mode resembles fumbbl perfectly. Just with better graphics and in LRB5 but with less races. The few games I played so far were fun, although I must say that the ingame animations for standing up, passing and so on are.. well let's say they exist, which they don't in fumbbl. Thus the one second of waiting until my player gets up is quite annoying.
In Blitz(Real-Time)-Mode against AI the player has the option to pause the game to give orders that will be executed once he unpauses the game. But since I didn't play enough Real-Time-Matches I can't say too much about it yet.
In Multiplayer however you cannot pause which makes controling all your players simultaneously quite hard. It seems to be more of a fun orientated game, although all strategies that are valid on fumbbl can also be executed in the real-time-mode. It really looks like fun, had a couple of matches with my mate MrKlein that were loads of fun.

Anyway the game is fun so far and I didn't have the feeling of something important missing, but the option to spectate games, which will be implemented during the next patches (referring to cyanide). I see a great deal of potential in the game so far, since it is way more attractive for newer players than a java based 2d version could ever be.

Conclusion: Well worth the buy, the turn-based mode is great. I definitely have to take a deeper look into Blitz-Mode to form a final opinion, but it definitely looks fun.

So guys, go out and buy it. The more people buy it, the better will be the service and the better will be the patches, the expansions and the greater will be the fun.

€dit: I just thought about editing the whole post again, but I suppose I will just write another one later/tomorrow, after some further testing. :)

I think personally the fumbbl & greater BB community should buy this. Ok this might not be the finished article that we would like but were other games when they came out. I wont be buying the PC version as my computer is pretty rubbish but Im looking forward to the DS & 360 versions.

I bought the game a couple days ago, I've played around 8 games so far. I've had it set to the hard level, and so far the AI is absolutely horrible. I've seen it start turns with longbeards dodging and 1d blocks from a rookie lineman. It rarely seems to do a full turn of moves that make sense from a strategic standpoint. The animations do get a bit aggravating at times, and I wish there were options to turn off some of the graphics. I really don't need to see a replay of every KO, or the 3 views of every TD. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, hopefully that will be good.

I think that cyanide/GW have continued with a trend that I dislike very much, that I think is present in games producers these days. Once upon a time games used to ship in a finished state. I think much of cyanides press releases/interviews etc make it clear that there is a lot of things they would like to have included at launch that they said "we didnt have time to implement etc etc". I think theyve taken a slight gamble on making the game and selling enough to make a healthy profit, and the trade off theyve made is to make half a game. They now want you to buy their half a game for full price so they can justify finishing the game properly. I am well aware that if people dont buy the game then it may well die a death, but that is not sufficent reason for me to shell out 40 pounds on a half finished game to allow me the right to spend more money on the reast of the game when the devs get round to it. Empire total war has done the same thing recently and I think its disgusting, I can seriously see PC games development dieing altogether the way things are going atm. This from what ive seen of my brothers versions has some great features, I just think they should have started with more/all teams and focused a little more on making things customisable. As it is I shant be spending any money on what i think is a shoddy con. I would rather play on a java client with shit graphics etc and spend no money waiting for an lrb 5 client.

I ve been playing this game for a couple of days. The most exciting feature is the LRB5 campaign turn-based mode. Watching your team grow and rank is great but do not expect to see graphic changes concerning this: there are no better armors, badges nor different haircuts because your player ranked, scored or killed someone. =( Rookie players look the same as veteran. I would love to see some contrast between experienced & rooks , and also within same position players! Linemen are all the same around as an example. Gameplay seems slow to fumbbl players, expect this! players move, run, standup, growl, cheer, taunt, threat while your mind is still planning the next move. I´m also a bit confused about the camera views and the field demarcation. Camera view is isometric by default, you can turn it up and down, tilt it and zoom in and out. But when you want to watch the field from above (as fumbbl) the zoom keeps you really far away from the action (i ve been playing with a 1900x1200 resolution on a 26 inches wide LCD but lowered it with no good results)and if you want to zoom in the plain eagle cam from above suddenly automatically changes to isometric view again. Annoying. The famouse game squares completely dissapeared and seems to be quite difficult to precisely click the way you want to; they finally appear but only within player range when a player is selected.
AI is stupid, but lets face it pals: there will be no challenging AI for fumbbl players, human minds are far better than chips, concerning being creative and originality ,yet.

Cya pals!
