First game done! Looking for criticism
So I have finally finished my first game! I sound happier than I should be, I did lose awfully and missplayed terribly, specially during the second half. however, I would like to hear some feedback from more experienced coaches.I'll leave the direct link to the replay here: https://fumbbl.com/ffblive.jnlp?replay=917597

Your first mistake is the team creation, you shouldn't have two rookie Thro-Ra's at the beginning. Two Blitz-Ra's but only two Re-Rolls is better, it saves you Re-Rolls and they are more resisting. Your team needs Block in its early phase of team development!
With the remaining 50k you can hire a Skeleton and have a reserve, which is good for half 2 as you should be able to still have 11 players active while your opponent may not.

The set up on offense was also bad. Try to maximize the chances to block the players on the LOS in case they didn't become knocked down. Push them along the LOS and not in a field one square behind it. Put the Thro-Ra and skeleton, who backup, closer to the outer defense to avoid breakthroug on Blitz! If you push a Troll, try to push him to a square where he is not adjacent to a player of his team. He has to move a player first and put next to the Troll if he wants to use the Troll at 2+ instead of 4+! I see that you didn't use a Blitz attempt in turn 1. Whenever possible use it, preferably with a three dice block and if that takes too much effort than a two dice block.
Don't put your ball carrier one square behind a player, that is already in a tackle zone. You risk that if he gets pushed or knocked down, you offer a chance to blitz your ball carrier and if not than your opponent has at least put up a tackle zone on your Agility 2 ball carrier which means that he has to get away this tackle zone with blocks or a blitz before he is able to move.
You were lucky that he didn't use a Re-Roll to knock your ball carrier down.

Don't put your skeleton one square behind a skeleton who is very likely to be pushed and knocked down in the subsequent turn. By this you have two skeletons trapped against a Black Orc Blocker with Strength 4!

When you tried to recover the ball from the Black Orc Blocker with your Blitz-RA, you were lucky that you rolled that 4+ chance (Both Down, Pow/Dodge, Pow against Skull and Pushback, Pushback). You better had blocked the Blitzer with your Thro-Ra, used the mummy to blitz the Black Orc Blocker with two dices and eventually would be able to pick up the ball with the Blitz-Ra who was in a good position to run and score.

The block with Tomb Guardian #4 should have resulted in the pushback to as far away from the ball as possible, therefore not diagonal but angular. Also follow up with the Tomb Guardian as:
You absolutely should have tried to pick up the ball with the remaining Skeleton and run to your scoring zone.
If you had followed up with the TG, you had all his players in a tackle zone and forced him to roll a 3+ before he was even able to throw a dice on your ball carrying Skeleton.

On Turn 7 you should've used TG #4 to blitz their Blitzer and push him onto the ball, hoping for a good bounce and eventually pick up the ball or at least have some tackle zones on it.
At the end of turn 7 you dodged with the Skeleton and put up a second tackle zone on their blitzer, leaving the ball completely untouched. Instead you should've put your Skeleton next to Blitzer #8, diagonal to the ball and therefore not in the tackle zone of Lineman #10.

That is my advise for half 1. :)

Alright, I will take this things into consideration. I did consider the "marking the blitzer" play at turn 7, but for some reason (maybe nerves) I immediately thought "Nah, that's stupid, all he has to do is block my skeleton and he's free." To all new players reading this log: DON'T DO THAT. Forcing the enemy to block you in order to get into an advantageous position is super important because it increases his chances of screwing up. even if he had been successful on his block, the play would've forced him to have a much weaker defense for his ballcarrier. Also, something I cought in turn eight that you didn't see: the better play was definitely to blitz Lineman #10 and then getting both skeletons on the ballcarrier's face: that would force him to make a hailmarry 1d block, giving him a huge chance to get a turnover. the play I went with (Blocking and then blitzing the ballcarrier) was much riskier, since I was blitzing w/o block and with 1 die, which increased the possibilities of him simply scoring (which is exactly what happened from rolling a both down)

I'd just like to say that khemri is not a good starting team for a rookie coach. Try orcs or humans instead (or some other ag3 team).

Dominik isnt our warmest coach, so he lacks the social skills to say 'welcome and have fun here, you asked for feedback so i am going to be really specific on your first half and hope it helps'.

that said, his advice is very solid. he is a good coach. it would be wlel worth your while replaying your game and spotting each piece of his advice, after all, that's what he did for you.

He may lack a certain creative spark (and most social skills) but his advice is top draw and very clear. And he means well.

Welcome aboard by the way.

Thank you guys for the feedback :P It is all very appreciated! In specific, I have seen some of Dominik's latest "controversies" and I honestly feel like he would be the type of person I'd avoid IRL, but honestly his winrate is high enough for me to consider his advice heavily. On Roland's advice, my initial thought was "How dare you tell me how to play the game?! >:v" but honestly the more I think about it the less there is a reason to not make a human team and play with that for a while. I've played with Khemri and Chaos for a long time and I have been getting used to bashy teams too much, so maybe playing running teams might help me understand some concepts of the game better, as well as help me understand them. Plus, Khemri do help me learn how to think forwardly, but they do require you to have a somewhat deeper understanding of the game (since you gotta know how to score efficiently in time), so there is no reason to play them right now, and absolutely no reason to not play them later on.

Anyways, thank you all for the advice, guys. It is all definitely appreciated

While I was typing my advise I thought to myself "Why do you actually help out a guy who you don't know at all and who might be one of those people with contrary beliefs who you won't help out if you knew it?"

I'm glad you confirmed my doubts.

Hey, look, you're obviously not a bad person, if perhaps just a bit misguided. Honestly, your advice does help me out, and that's honestly a very good first impression to make on people! Don't let my douchebaggery get you down, you honestly are ok. Also, if you ever need anything, do tell me, cause I might not be the best with BB stuff, but I might be able to help with other stuff :P

My opinion is that there are a few races not suitable for beginners. Khemri isn't one of them tho. It's not exactly a good race but you should be able to do reasonably well and learn their style of play.
Khemri was the first race that allowed me to reasonably improve my CR in this game.

If you wanna go on a bit of a run with a team, may I suggest FanFactor 9 when you create the team. The 90 000 will pay itself off in 3-4 games.
Posted by Dominik on 2016-12-12 04:52:00
That is a terrible advice. You offer your opponent in the first few games handicaps between a beer, two cards or an apothecary. Or you sacrifice some positionals or a reroll for the extra fan factor. Start with 0 Fan Factor except in some cases where you are in a tournament or a short league.

Don't worry, I have played enough BB before joining FUMBBL to know that's troll advice :P
