Any Diplomacy players here?
Been playing a lot of diplomacy recently, mostly at Webdiplomacy (the other one I use is the Android based Droidippy),which if you ignore their cesspool of a forum (no subforums, just a topic list), is probably the best diplomacy site for the games themselves UI wise, and I've gotten myself into a bit of a bind. Namely, I keep drawing Germany over and over again. Now for those who haven't played Germany, the problem is it's a central power, as in middle of the board, which means you have, in a 7 player game, 5 other players that can pose an immediate threat if things go sour, namely Russia, France, Austria, and to a lesser extent England and Italy.

It's made me realize I'm a lot rustier than I thought I was, which means I'm wondering if there are any other FUMBBL players out there who also dabble in Diplomacy who would be willing to give it another go over the next few weeks?

Diplomacy is about... diplomacy.

I can't imagine playing it online frankly, need that face to face to get people to work with you.

As to Germany... well yeah, you need an alliance with someone so that you can just go take out whomever you want to take out. You do have easy access to 2-3 supply centers so in your 2nd year you should have 5 units, but at that point you need an agreement with someone to move on someone else. I always preferred to ally Russia and move West, let Russia work on England while you take out France.

Is that like a new BB race?

Love the game. Just dusted it off to show my son because he came home with Risk: Europe after going shopping with his birthday money (completely uninfluenced by me). Anyway... Risk: Europe is a lot like a mix between Diplomacy and the original Risk. Fun game... I digress.

But I would agree that half the fun of Diplomacy is about the face-to-face aspect of the game. But it does take a half a day to play right ;)

Is the online one something that you take, say... a week? to make your fall move, then another week to make your spring move and so on? I might be interested, but I would have to know how the turns are being run.

Most online versions I know of the common one is 24-72 hours, although a week would work for a more intimate game. The one I'd probably use, WebDip, can be set to anything from 5 min to 10 days. I know the android version is only 24 hours, but that's because push notifications make back and forth easier.

I wish I had a clone to play it.
