When cherry picking is an understatement!...
My understanding of cherry picking was something like dwarves with +TR/TS asking some underdeveloped zons for a game...
Frankly speaking, I have done it too... And I still do, when there are very little teams and this matchup seems the lesser picking...
But now... I just had a good laugh...
I've been asked for a game by someone with:
CR: 168.93
TR: 247
TS: 200
Chaos with couple claws and DP.

Against my:
CR: 155.86
TR: 181
TS: 169
Chaos... with only 10 players including 1 niggler.

I asked the guy if he was serious, he said yes, that because he had only 11 players and giving 3 handicaps, he thought it was fair...

Is it just me or that's just... LOL? xD

In the old days I'd have laughed about that ridiculus offer too... these days.... Blackbox may scedule you exactly a game like that.... so,,, it can't be too unfair :)

Thank you Blackbox for lowering standards :)

just try blackbox. you grow with your challenges!

Surely you don't think he got his CR up to 168.93 by playing evenly matched or god forbid games where he had a disadvantage? :P

Whats this RANKED thing everyone keeps talking about???
Posted by Tobrane78 on 2009-09-12 00:57:09
Not quite sure why you guys bring the blackbox thing here... clearly if I wanted to, I'd play there and to hell with ratings / standards... But clearly this teams being in Ranked, it's also because we do want to avoid such matchups ;)

The match-up was a tad one sided.

LRB4 Handicaps, for the most part, do not come anywhere near to equalising a game. The only time they would do is if you could somehow select the ones you wanted for that game.

BBox gives you such matchups sometimes
Some people in Ranked try to play such matchups as ofthen as posible (and allways on the same side)

So BBox beats Ranked for a competitive div.

That is exactly why i dont play in ranked any more. Last time i was on the gamefinder i spent 10 min explaining to some nut that i didt whant to play a completely unfair game.

But if you goten greatest, wasn't me and morleys as handicaps he could been down to 5 players for the game. I once got those handicaps and my opo was realy anoyed :D

Oh man that was your shot to hurt his CR... He is obviously a CR loving fool.

You pull the right handis and he would have been sunk and you would have probally rolled to an easy victory.

And if you did not pull the right handis...well welcome to the world of the BOX.

But either way. I would have taken the match just to rain on his parade.

Follow up.

Now if he had 14+ players...then hell yeah it definitly falls under the serious Cherry Picker title. With 11 guys that is borderline.
Posted by treborius on 2009-09-12 20:40:28
now why in the world do you fools come up with blackbox-problems if someone in R gets asked for an unfair matchup?
have i missed some fancy trend of blaming another division if the one you're hanging out in doesn't deliver the fun you're looking for?
that match-up isn't even possible in the box.
you commentators fael!

This is blog post is quite ironic because today Tobrane78 challenged my Dark Elves with his Dorfs.

My darkies:
156/161. 3 Blodges, a few lino's with block and a DP. 4 blitzers, No witches.

His dorfs:
161/175. 5 MBs, 6 Guards, and a DP. Full compliment of positional players.

Both teams have 12 players. Maybe it could been a bit more cherry flavoured if I was wood elves?

No... But if you did read well: "And I still do, when there are very little teams and this matchup seems the lesser picking..."
And at the time I offered you... all other available players (3 of them) with higher stats either never replied or rejected the match.
So yeah... wasn't expecting a positive reply, but since you were the last one with the 40 TS rule, I had to ask...

And anyway, sure my team does seem stronger, but since only 3 of your players have dodge, the Tackle-army doesn't matter (not that you said it did), and 8/12 of your players do have Block, so not too risky there.

So we basically have a team of MA 4-6 vs a MA 6-8 with AG4 who can thus rather reliably dodge away ensuring very few blocks are done by my dwarves.
This is usually the AG4 teams tactics, but guess you don't play them that way!

You may, before saying silly things, check the matches of my dwarf team and see that usually, I take on teams that are around (higher on average) my ratings.
No intentional picking here!

I didn't actually say anything silly. I just stated the facts and asked a question. I spose the question was a little glib. I don't see why you're so defensive if you feel feel there's nothing wrong with that challenge.
Posted by Tobrane78 on 2009-09-13 15:09:30
The silly thing was the part "quite ironic" and implying I was cherry picking.
Didn't think I was being over defensive, just explaining the reasoning why I thought it wasn't really picking at all.
By all means, not an equal challenge, but not a cherry pick either.
Posted by karix on 2009-09-13 21:58:03
"Explaining the reasoning" is another way of saying 'making excuses'. If the teams were reversed would you have accepted the challenge? If not, its cherry picking ;).

In Tobrane's defence, it's not a cherry pick (IMO). The dwarven advantage of block was non existent and the elves' higher MA and higher AG were a significant trouble for the dwarves.

There was no handicap and a full strength dark elf team is a very strong one to play with. That's not cherry picking.

Don't think he needs to explain. The chap in question in the blog does.
