Inducments under 50K?
hi guys

today i was thinking.. why moneys under 40k should be wasted vs a better team? i mean. 40k it could be a couple of skills'

why dont find a way to use that money?

like buy some assistant or cheerleader for a match; even if it cost 2 or 3 times than standard.

i know is really few but better than nothing.

let me know!

IF inducements were meant to equalise play, which they aren't. The top dog should be the game favourite, which isn't the case in a lot of situations.

With/if inducements equalising or in a lot of cases giving the underdog the advantage, there is less/no point in team progression.

I'm of the same camp of thinking. Any unused Inducement money I believe should go into your treasury.

Why would a match sponsor give you money, to take to another stadium and use it in a match in competition to his own stadium's?
Posted by huff on 2013-04-02 22:37:39
Perhaps fluff wise the incumbent (lower TV team) is paid to partake in the match, in addition to any winnings, to entice them to play in a game they know they are outmatched in on paper.

If your TV difference is 40k you don't need inducements.
Suck it up and play >:(
Posted by harvestmouse on 2013-04-02 23:11:25
Well yeah that's the fluff for playing up. 40 or lower TV, it's a pretty even match up.

Oh wow, Harvestmouse and I agree on something! :P
Posted by huff on 2013-04-02 23:20:11
Well I'm just saying any unused inducement money could be put into your treasury instead of being used for said game. Whether that be 20k or 220k, help teams out that are in a vicious cycle of playing with JMen or playing with the minimum 11 every time because they only ever have enough treasury to buy (maybe) a lineman (not even positional) a match.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2013-04-02 23:39:14
Yes, but how is that determined? You'd also be giving money to the minmaxers. With that format, it gives money to the underdog (who actually maybe the topdog, depending on the situation).

Your format in no way targets beaten up teams, just underdogs. So if anything, it promotes minmaxing.

Journeymen, is the perfect way of helping out beaten up teams. That's what they were added for. Not for using on teams to save money.

LOL Harvestmouse, massive can of worms with that JM rule ;)
Posted by huff on 2013-04-03 00:05:49
So let the minmaxers gain another 1 mil in treasury.. they have no need for it anyways. Im talking about teams that could genuinly use the gold, and yes it may happen that some teams hoard even more treasury that they will never use.

Under the same premise the underdog tv wise (who may well be the top dog really) may be getting a babe or 2 or even a bribe.

The teams you speak of have no desire for more treasury and would more likely add 50k (out of a huge stockpile) of their own to get a babe.
Posted by huff on 2013-04-03 00:07:52
^^(if at less than 50TV under), thats what i would do and do do when using a team where treasury is a non-issue except when it comes to dumping it to make a tournament.

how many times have you played a game and said 'aww man, I have a tackler, and my opponent has no dodge', or 'aww man, I have kick off return, but my opponent is slow as molasses' or 'aww man I have x skill that can't be used in this game'.

and how many times is that for only 1 or 2 skills? or in other words, for 40k difference?

40k is a reasonable difference to see when a team has skills that can't be used in a particular match up; which means, there should NOT be any inducements for such a low difference because MOST teams do have a skill that simply doesn't matter in every single match up.

@huff: Inducements are meant to equalise play, not to boost your team treasury for upcoming games. In the described case it might be only 20 or 40 k. But what if i play a tv 1900 team with a tv 1500 team and choose not to spend any money for inducements. What on earth would justify me earning 400k to spend on players after the game? That`s completely bizarre.
Posted by roante on 2013-04-03 10:37:19
@Nelphine True, but the same stands for the other team.

I personally would welcome some 20-30k inducements like cheerleaders, fan factor boost or assistant coaches.
Posted by the_Sage on 2013-04-03 11:11:55
I'd say that half the unused inducement money should automatically go into fan factor.
Posted by uuni on 2013-04-03 15:31:46
Indeed. I will go further - Inducements are not meant to make the game equal, but to bring underdog a bit closer to the overdog and maintain that on most games the odds are under 2:1. That was the designer's intent on TFF. Some earlier analysis has claimed that this indeed is true on most matches and some (including me) have said that the TV-difference could be widened.

Still, CR is probably the main factor in match odds. The earlier CR-algorithm made 1 point of CR to have a bigger effect than +10k TV difference, and I think it still is in the same range.
Posted by pythrr on 2013-04-03 18:06:04

^^

except we all know that CR is entirely broken due to coaches using minmax teams, so that CR comment is nonsense
