A downward spiral for League
Spiralling Expenses are becoming a true detriment to League play. Moreso to older leagues that have many teams over 200tv. It's been a pain ever since the new client hit but my last game drove the point home.

I won the game but suffered 1 death and two perms all to good players. I had 20k sitting in my treasury, 20k in winnings. Spiralling Expenses hit me for 50k. Not only can I not afford to replace any of my key players, but apparently I need to write an IOU for 10k to nuffle!

I get it spiralling expenses is part of the new rule set and people have been dealing with it for awhile. But I see no reason to force Leagues into an artificial tv cap. If Leagues are used to playing at a high level then forcing them to cut down seems more then a bit of fail. Where are all the new League options to make L really stand out?

but with aging gone, spiraling expenses will be the only thing stopping uber teams completely dominating old leagues.

+1 for Pythrr, it is the only thing that keeps teams in check now. Also there will be other options for league in time, but they are very low down in the list of priorities at the moment i believe.

The bigger issue here is all these leagues should have restarted and not migrated. But never mind.

The house rules section in the rulebook shows how you can change the break point and step size for spiraling expenses, and I see no reason why this in the future shouldn't become an option for league commissioners the same way other options already exist. However, I don't see the problem with the current spiraling expenses; old teams will take hits yes, but it is what keeps them in check. It's just the price you have to pay for aging, and I think that it's a cheaper price too. Cause aging sucks.

as I said im sure those options will be available at some point, but im sure it is low in the list of priorities atm. They need to get all the skills implemented and the bugs fixed first, im sure that is what they are doing right now.

may happen some day, but not soon.

The rules state that leagues can change the rules to suit the size.

Yea, the old leagues 'should have' started over... Ya know, except that whole fluff thing... I know (or think I do) the leagues E is referring to, and cutting out those teams ruins the history and the whole feel and point of the leagues. We want a site that makes us live by the rules... So why not all of them?

Now, I have no idea how hard that would be to program in, so it's just an agreement post, not a demand post... But man do I want it...

OBBA is just about to start its first CRP season it'll be interesting to see what spiralling expenses does to the league dynamics.

my understanding is that the client's development is on summer hiatus and likely won't restart until august-sih. and i can't agree with garion more, theres much bigger fish to fry than this issue. so i wouldn't hold my breath.

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. SEs are only actually a limit on the already troubled 'squishy' teams -Bashers just don't care (OH woes I've got up to 3 million in the bank instead of 10 now!)

Fortunately while there are other fish to fry, this tiddler is probably very quick and easy to cook (code) at this point (we have optional L rules already so they know how to do that, and it's only a matter of changing a few numbers -it doesn't even need to happen in the client ...in fact I don't think the client does SE at all anyway)

nonsense. bashers won't be able o build up such amounts of cash in most leagues. this is not B.

Spiraling expenses, in my opinion, are a great balance to keep a team from giving up too many inducements. So you have a league where there aren't the same limits as to what the two opponents TV's are?... I know I don't want to give up too many inducements. I'm fine giving up a few hundred or so... but I gave up $950+ in one game and it's rather disconcerting.

It's a balance thing, E... don't fear the change :)

the problem with your logic tim, is that theres 100 coaches on the site who think their 'fish' would only take five minutes to 'fry'. how is your fish any more important than anyone else's on the site?

and if it's so easy, perhaps you should volunteer a few minutes of your time to code for the site

Cut your team down in TV so it's under the SE cap.

Easy!!

In all seriousness though, in terms of Leagues wanting to keep their fluff and history.
Can I put forward exhibit A:
http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=30941

The Slumbering Skink are a long-serving team in the SWL. They got to keep their fluff and history in a way that maintained the 'starting afresh' direction that the league decided to take.

Theres always a way, people. Stop moaning about what you COULD have, and make the best of what you've got.

I couldn't afford to start fresh over, however I did drop a couple of rerolls. I'm probably gonna drop a few expensive players soon, at least the ones not doing their job (https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=589050). I actually like the change from aging to spiralling expenses (aging was too random imo). I'm sure that some day, League will be customizable enough to let people make silly insane teams, but until then, fire those pretentious players that doesn't pull their weight.

It shouldn't be handled by the client, but the site here, so it should be Christer's "fish to fry" - and I must admit, the inability of league commissioners to fiddle with the teams in their league was the most important reason why our little local league never migrated here.
If you were allowed that, you could just manually re-adjust the cash of the teams.

I recently posted adjustable Spiralling Expenses on the forums, and I've since mentioned it personally to Christer, so he knows.

Now we just wait. Knowing Christer, there are more things in his head he wants to implement than there are working hours in his lifetime.
