071118 - A Day in Dwarfland Pt. 2.
A continuation on the first Dwarf article which chronicle my bearded journey away from my beloved Orcs are Elves Too. In the last installment, I had tried to get in as many dwarf games as possible, giving up partly out of boredom and partly out of scarcity of willing opponents. Since then, I've managed a total of one game in a little over two weeks.

A day or so after abandoning the initial project, I started challenging any and all advertising in the gamefinder within a 10pt TS range. I steeled myself for rejection and rejection did I find. Also a fair few "no way!"s and I'm sure at least a few were calling me a cherrypicker; such criticism would be true enough, though truthfully I was more a challenge spammer than anything else. After I while I eased up, and just added them along with the Orcs whenever I had the chance. Eventually I got me a game.

The game that broke the drought came from the the desert that is the chat channel mid-afternoon AEST. I can't remember if Fish30 challenged me or I he, but either way it's a brave thing bringing a skaven team against some recently skilled up dwarves. The game was messy, the tone set by a death on the very first block. Fish30's luck was as terrible as mine flawless. I never felt worse winning: after the beastly RSC rat-ogre was taken down and the I never really felt in danger of losing. Towards the end, I was rooting for the little guys. This game wasn't so much about stwart defenders holding out against a more agile horde as a big kid mugging a little of his lunch money. I guess after a rough day of gang-fouls, Nuffled dice and unsporting opponents, this type of match is fun but I don't think I have the stomach for it. In any case, Fish30 stuck it out and I hope one day some dwarves get their comeuppance from some ratty Claw/RSC monstrosity.

Moving along, I've had no other dwarf games but that is soon to change. I've entered Ameranth's Gauntlet league (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=group&op=view&group=5002) which will guarantee some games in the future. The format is quite brutual so it should be good for a few stories. On a final note, a rather unexpected thing happened while I waiting for another league member to show up so I could try this gauntlet thing out. My dwarf team was challenged by some Amazons! I would never have thought it would happen but not only that my dwarf team, in line with the rules of the league, only had one FF, so the girls would have been looking at some pain for not very much gain.

Maybe it is because [L] is a much more whimsical place where people care much less about win probabilies and whatnot, but still, not something I expect to see again.
