Dodging Wood Elves
Before you click one, this isn't about avoiding wood elves. It's about the joys I have finally discovered playing the nippy blighters.

By my own admission, I am not a very good elf player. I've always struggled with them, as I play a bashy game, but it's something I want to improve on.

So when I saw the ELF group, I thought it would be the perfect chance to have a real go with elves. Now I've been guilty in the past of avoiding certain match-ups with elves and when I have played 'bashier' teams I've tended, regrettably, to go for teams with a lower TR than mine. I hold my hands up to this, I get easily rattled when I'm several players down and hey that happens a lot with elves.

So far in the ELF with my mighty Tree Capers, I have won all 6 of my games - against necromantic, goblin, chaos, ogre, dwarf and khemri - much of the time players down. Now I thought I would try to complete the cycle first not going for all baseline games. I'm not very good after all, and I could see my wood elves being retired before I started. So far I've really enjoyed it, and with the exception of the ogre game, they have all been relatively competitive.

My favourite game of the six so far has to be this one where somehow I managed to win 2-1 with 4 players against a + TR/TS khemri team. My team was totally mangled after receiving 9 casualties, including a BH against the poor treeman, but instead of considering conceding I just went for it. I had a big grin on my face at the end, despite some particularly crap dice (40%!).

Not really sure where this is going, but I am definitely less concerned about the safety of my elves. I EXPECT every block to be a casualty, and it often is(!), but I'm not fussed so long as I've got a few players on the pitch. Ironically, the matches I'm most dreading are those against the elf teams, but we'll wait until the end of the sprint for them. Then, if I've still got a team left, we'll go back through the cycle trying to get some baseline games in...
