What the heck is that. Now I understand how a non-player looks at blood bowl. Does that game have rules or what?
Posted by dreadlord on 2013-04-06 00:50:45
well...2 teams of 27 badasses each in a pitch formed by two littlesquares covered by sand. endzone are maded whit a simple net. trowing ball in the net give 1 point to the team ( it's called "caccia" mean hunt) if the ball misses the team in defence take half score. there are roles: 4 keeper, 4 blockers, 4 lineman, 4 attackers and 13 runners. there are also 2 guys for team: captain and bishop that have the role of stopping violent riot XD.

just put the ball in the score and kick the other.... by the way i can see that they mostly fight whit grappling and try submission. hitting is not so common.

we are crazy XD

Haves: Men oiling each other up. Half naked men hugging. Half naked men cuddling on the ground. Half naked men prancing around with a beach ball. Funny elf music, and it's not haha funny.

Have nots: Female cheerleaders. Real Violence. Bloodweiser Babes.

Just saying. ;D

I would have thought 43 Man Squamish... are you sure about the number of players on the field?

Broken arms
Wrestling
Triangle chokes
Punches to the face

Oh yeah... and a ball!

ps: That ref has about the authority of a pro wrestling ref. Hey stop that! No punching the face! Ok carry on. Hey stop that!

I've actually heard/read about this game before!

According to wikipedia, this game was invented around 1600, not 1300. But it was still pretty entertaining to watch. Couldn't really follow the rules, though. Will have to check out their website to try and make sense of the mayhem.

yes, 1300 is lies!
Posted by pythrr on 2013-04-06 07:47:13

It is called "Historical Florence Football", but the only real thing in this name is Florence. And is above ridicoulous, that is for me as an italian...

You have to see it live to understand...

Not sure what to make of that. Positives:
*Loved the costumes.
*Great to keep old sports and traditions alive.
*Certainly is very violent.
*They seem to have kept it as traditional as possible, even down to an overly plump opening ceremony.

Negatives:
*I wasn't very exciting.
*I had no idea what was going on.
*It appeared to be 'agreed' violence. 'Hey how about you and me get some violence on?' 'Ok, what sort of violence were you thinking of?' 'I was thinking of a bit of fisties, then some submission stuff?' 'Not into the fisties, can we just get down to arm breaking?'

Being a fighter and a fight fan I have seen quite a few strange variants of MMA like Xarm (arm wrestling and MMA combined) and that Russian 2v2 fight in an obstacle cause called HIP.

As for football and fighting we of cause has al the rugby variants like Aussie rules and Gaelic football.

Then there is the mentioned Florence Football that is a spectacle between 4 parts of the city played once every year.

Some other Italien guys got inspired by that and created the fight football league similar Florence Football but with fewer guys and mma gloves on and more rules of engagement like no sucker punch and you have to be willing to fight in order to be enraged or have the ball.

I know from youtube theres allso a polish version of the football fight league they even have guys dressed up in viking cloth as spectators o0.

Thouse are the variants I know of and I have seen come up in MMA forums.

On Another fun thing I saw yesterday when half watching some documentarry about colonial football development in Africa. Soccer or football came from China to Italy and then to England then spred from there.

NO NO NO NO!
That's not a sport, that's just the scene when mama serves up her special pasta for dinner!

:-)

i'll never understand why this sport is not televised around the world, seems like a damn shame to me

I showed this video to 4 friends who know nothing of BB. They are all Rugby guys, and they all hated it. I think it's interesting, and almost like a Gaelic sport brought over the Italians. If it were 1300, I wouldn't have come to that assumption, but 1600? It's seems like a imported sport to me. The point system lead me to believe that. What I like about it most is that you can punch a guy out if he tries to grab you. The ground molestation is something I think I would evoke a swat or two towards the attempted. At least Piling on allows a guy to stand in a turn or two.

That would be an interesting new skill. Where you flop on a guy, (potentially a POer) and give him essentially a Stun, without the armour. At the cost of your player staying down as well. Next step past Wrestle. Wouldn't be a waste if used effectively.
