Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #2; Issue #4

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= GAMEWEEK 4 ROUND-UP =
A fascinating week as numerous players stood up and were counted for their teams, with no less than 5 players racking up the SPPs, 9 players breaking the threshold of 10 blocks in a game, and 6 players covering 29 rushing yards or more. The Marquee Players are not the only ones who are proving their importance for GDR teams.

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
None of last week's players managed to break into the top tier; they were replaced by a quintet of quality athletes:
6 SPP - Toe Ripper (Iron Crag Claws), Grulg Bonecleava & Jorn L. Waaagh! (both Dragonback Squigs), Grum Skullcleava (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics), Orzog Shugdurbam (Nordland Skullsmasherz)

= CASUALTIES =
There was an increase in deaths this week, but no one player stood out as being more deadly than any other - and both most brutal players play for the same side;
2 casualties - ★ Dazkhul Beastmaw ★ & Naruba Lagramph (Nordland Skullsmasherz)

= BLOCKS =
A wealth of players appeared in this category and it seems that each team is finally identifying who is best suited to hand out some hurt;
12 blocks - Leg Snapper (Iron Crag Clawz), Grudgak Skullbasher (Middenland Ironskins)
10 blocks - Thogg Ironjaw, Wubdagog, Grash Bonechewer (all Badlands Black Feathers), Arm Snapper (Averland Bat-Squigs), Gurog Uzugarn, Dakkul Beastmaw, Grotz Eargrinda (all Karak Azgarak Fanatics)

= TOUCHDOWNS =
A more defensive shift or a desire to spread out the glory of being the points scorer? Who can say, so it may be unsurprising to see just two players racking up more than 1 touchdown this week;
2 touchdowns - Jorn L. Waaagh! (Dragonback Squigs), Grum Skullcleava (Karak Azgarak Fanatics)

= FOULS =
One fewer in the number of foulers this week. The prevalence of cagey, narrow games, meaning coaches don't risk fouling players being removed, appears to have led to coaches' benching their most pesky players;
===UPDATE=== Our goblins were alerted to an oversight... An incredible fouling masterclass from the Black Feathers little runt, Rukzit. Well done that man!
2 fouls - Slugg Bonekrakka (Dragonback Squigs); Urza Spinechoppa (Drakwald 'Ardboyz); Skabzit Mudspitta (Nordland Skullsmasherz)
3 fouls - Cut Cut Gelder (Iron Crag Claws)
6 fouls - Rukzit the Menace (Averland Bat-Squigs)

= RUSHING YARDS =
A wealth of ball-carrying talent here from six different franchises

29 yards - Indestructible (Iron Crag Claws); Zagh Slugweava (Estalia Gutrippers); Zaggruk Goreblade (Badlands Black Feathers); Hazel Nuts (Grom peak Scrappers)
35 yards - Orzog Shugdurban (Nordland Skullsmasherz)
36 yards - Grom Skullcleava (Karak Azgarak Fanatics)

= PASSING YARDS =
Only one player features and it says a lot about how coaches remain cautious in the early stages of the season that they prefer to run the ball rather than anything through the air. pHold up, didn't I write the same thing last week...?
4 yards - Groth Bonegnasha (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there will be awards for some notable players and coaches:

MVP
It has to be Grom Skullcleava of the Karak Azgarak Fanatics. Skullcleava featured in the SPP, touchdowns, and rushing yards categories. A scoring threat to be reckoned with by any opponent.

Golden Clipboard
IntrepidWilson (Dragonback Squigs)
Coach Wilson may have been fortunate to see his 0-0 grindfest pick up Best Result last week but there's no chance a 3-0 win can be overlooked. Marquee Player Jorn L. Waaagh! ran in 2 touchdowns and the Squigs outblocked, out-passed, and out-classed the Piratz, who were unbeaten until that point. 2nd round pick, Grulg Bonecleava, ran rampant - in 8 turns he made 5 blocks and picked up an MVP vote for his aggression and tactical positioning.

Best Result
RobinFern (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
MATCHSCORESCORERS
Karak Azgarak Fanatics2G. Skullcleava x2
Grom Peak Scrappers1H. Nuts
The rehabilitation of the Fanatics was completed this week. The Champions Cup finalists had been beaten in the first week, were awarded a forfeit win against the Steel Claws, fought hard for a draw last week, and finally got a fully-deserved win this week. After Skullcleava scored in just two turns, the Scrappers lived up to their name with some vital blocks and an equaliser from Hazel Nuts, who is making a name for himself this season. However, the real scrap was in the second half where the Fanatics suffered 3 KOs and 2 serious injuries but still managed to get themselves over the line. Once again, the Fanatics completed a match without committing a single foul - a truly disgraceful statistic, but one they can be unbearably smug about.
= IN MEMORIAM =
For every winner, there must be a loser and, to give them their (final) moment in the limelight, we recognise those players who left us this week:

‣ Naomi Miattraddi (Tilean Sea Piratz) - after 4 games, 2 touchdowns, and 1 MVP vote, the Blitzer appeared to have a promising career. Not any more...
‣ Split Bonechukka (Middenand Ironskins) - a handy free agent pick, but the Ironskins suffer their second fatality in two games.
‣ DaMangla Overkill & Vernon Squiggs (Drakwald 'Ardboyz) - these franchise rookies, with 11 games apiece spanning the first two season - both with 1 casualty and 1 MVP - retired to the commentary box in the sky after their defeat to the Skullsmasherz, or the 'Cursed Game', as 'Ardboyz owner Chukka Chones named it.
