Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #2; Issue #3

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= GAMEWEEK 3 ROUND-UP =
Some of the more experienced coaches began to turn their fortunes around this week, as some of the new franchises met stiff resistance. What was also notable was the limited involvement of Marquee Players this week, perhaps seeing that coaches are recognising the threat of these stars and neutralising them through their improved tactics.

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
There were three players who recorded more than 6 SPP and Skogg Eargrinda racked up an incredible 20 SPP over the past two games:

6 SPP - Indestructible (Iron Crag Claws); Zayden Wone (Dragonback Squigs)
7 SPP - Kragg Goremaw (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)
13 SPP - Skogg Eargrinda (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns)

= CASUALTIES =
An improvement of sorts this week with four players striking down two opponents in four different matches.
2 casualties - Wrath (Iron Crag Claws); Grulg Bonecleava (Dragonback Squigs); ★ Ghazghkull Thraka ★ (Drakwald 'Ardboyz); Grotz Eargrinda (Nordland Skullsmasherz)

= BLOCKS =
The blocking responsibilities were shared out amongst players this week;
12 blocks - Tharku 'Eadsmasha (Bretonnian Brutes); ★ Ghazghkull Thraka ★ (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)

= TOUCHDOWNS =
Only two players scored more than twice but that's not so say there weren't some comparatively high scoring games - and it's a first hat-trick for Eargrinda.
2 touchdowns - Indestructible (Iron Crag Claws)
3 touchdowns - Skogg Eargrinda (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns)

= FOULS =
The levels of sportsmanship have taken a serious decline this week; that is to say, there were few fouls committed, even by those normally reliable sneaky gits and dirty players.
2 fouls - Ivel (Bretonnian Brutes); Cut Cut Gelder (Iron Crag Claws); Thrakk Bloodfang (Estalia Gutrippers); Slugg Bonekrakka (Dragonback Squigs); Baggit Wartsnout (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)

= RUSHING YARDS =
It's interesting to see the last season MVP and leader of total Rushing Yards getting back on the table... A threat to those teams facing the Claws. And, last week's Passing Yards leader also appears on the Rushing Yards list for the first time. A double threat!

28 yards - Skogg Eargrinda (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns)
29 yards - Thugbo Skulltaker (Karak Norn Crusherz)
34 yards - Indestructible (Iron Crag Claws)
35 yards - Kragg Goremaw (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)

= PASSING YARDS =
Only one player features and it says a lot about how coaches remain cautious in the early stages of the season that they prefer to run the ball rather than anything through the air.
4 yards - Grunk Gorefang (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there will be awards for some notable players and coaches:

MVP
It can only be Skogg Eargrinda of the Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns. A hat-trick of touchdowns and a well-earned MVP nod means he picks up more SPP than some entire teams and establishes himself as a genuine scoring threat.

Golden Clipboard
Kozilek (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns)
Coach Kozilek ran in 3 touchdowns after going one behind to bright new additions, Ritzi's Middenland Ironskins. Scores in turns 12, 14, and 17 turned the game around and gives his team a good chance to make the play offs in their first season. Notable mentions to Asteflix and Rijssiej whose roster management meant that they both accrued 16 SPP for their teams in well won victories.

Best Result

MATCHSCORESCORERS
Dragonback Squigs0---
Averland Bat-Squigs0---
An absolutely selfish and totally audacious pick for match of the week, as both the Squigs and the 'Ardboyz had lost their opening games, giving Coach Wilson a 0-0-4 record. However, the Squigs - despite their disadvantages in the draft and no player development over the past season, stood firm agains the Bat-Squigs, inflicting four serious injuries on their solid opponents. Rarely will a nil-nil draw feature here again!
= IN MEMORIAM =
For every winner, there must be a loser and, to give them their (final) moment in the limelight, we recognise those players who left us this week:

‣ Zudagog Squigbiter (Badlands Black Feathers) - The Feathers lose another Big 'Un Blocker, suggesting that the Badlands aren't just dangerous for humans. Fouled by Grott Facechewa.
‣ Corbin Jurine (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns) and Shagzog Gorgrim (Middenland Ironskins) - two rookies who chose to accept Nuffle into their lives in an exciting match between these two rivals.
‣ Haydon Capide (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics) - an 8-game star of the Fanatics debut season, Capide decided to retire with grace by being blocked to death...
