What a game! Even though I lost (coin toss after overtime) I think this was one of the best games I've ever had on Fumbbl. In the end a small mistake at the end of the second half cost me the game. I need to learn do defend better.
Despite kicking in the first half and suffering a RIP in the opening blocks, I managed to steal the ball quickly after a well-placed fireball. I stalled until turn 7, but then failed a gfi on the touchdown line after having spent a reroll for a failed dodge (1). I lost the ball, but recovered it again in turn 8, but this time the receiver threw a 1 on the catch roll... so still 0-0 at half time.
The Wandering Feathers received the ball at the start of the second half. We stalled until turn 7 before scoring, fearing that stalling another turn would have been pushing it too much. This left Excellence of Execution two turns for the equalizer. This is where we felt the lack of a kicker, because the ball fell in the hands of beastman on the front line. And then we made a mistake. Despite putting 5 tackle zones on the only beastman in scoring position, we left enough space for a guard beastman to move in for an assist. Thanks to this assist, the beastman 2d blitzed and dodged through and received the pass for 1-1, leading the game to overtime.
Things looked bad with only 9 players left against a full opposing squad and kicking instead of receiving. Nevertheless the Feathers put up a solid defense and even managed to significantly reduce the opposition. They couldn't break through and with 5 rerolls left (versus only 1 for me) speculated on the coin toss. In turn 7 I made my decisive move and -2d stripped the ball, which unfortunately landed in the hands of another beastman. All elves moved in now, hoping for some failure to happen on the other side. Next turn the ball was handed off to an ag4 beastman who threw the ball away into the open, but still in reach of a lineman. After freeing up some space, the lineman dodged out and even picked up the ball for the final long bomb to a catcher within scoring range. We still needed a 5+ long bomb, but it actually worked... only to get intercepted! So close!
Two 1's in the first half, a silly mistake in the second half and an interception in overtime cost me the game, but it was still a very good one against a legendary team.
Good luck next round!
And I need to learn to stall the full 8 turns, not just 7...
