Fumbbl Cup XV: round 2:

The Pearled Unicorns started kicking in this elfball game. Backed up by a wizard, the elves set off a fireball in the third turn, creating chaos and mayhem while knocking over several high elves, including the ball carrier. Although the ball scattered into the hands of a nearby high elf catcher, we managed to kick it loose in the same turn. A ridiculous throw-in by the crowd swung the ball over 10 squares away, making it an easy pick-up for one of my own catchers. Stalling would be risky, so I scored the next turn. This still left the opposition with enough time for the equalizer, resulting in the logical 1-1 score at half-time.

Meanwhile the Unicorn's numbers had started dwindling, so the second half would not be easy with 8 vs 11. I had some luck too, when a successful 1d on the ball resulted in a good scatter, ending in the hands of another pro elf player. This happened twice in a row. Finally, my AG6 blitzer ended up with the ball in his hands. By then the high elves' armour started to show some cracks too. The ball was cut loose once more, this time ending in an unoccupied square. Then a high elf catcher heading for the ball failed a gfi with the team reroll already gone, knocking himself out in the process. It was 8 vs 8 now, and only 4 more turns to hold on to the ball and score.

Next turn the ball was stripped out of my hands again - for the fourth time - but without anyone from the opposition nearby to pick it up. So, once more I recovered and finally scored in turn 16. Bad ko rolls resulted in both high elf catchers remaining in the ko box, rendering the one-turner very difficult indeed.

The dice were with me in this one. In any case, The Pearled Unicorns continue to the third round!

Thanks to coach Brainsaw for the game!
