FUMBBL :: Online Blood Bowl League

Just needed to get this out, vent a bit, you all know how it is sometimes.....

My uncle Les (pictured with me below) is in hospital following a quick deterioration from bowel cancer. 3 weeks ago he was told he had 1-2 years with chemo, and only last week we were chatting at his home about remaining positive and what we were going to do in that time. Fast forward 8 days, and his bowel perforated, the cancer went ballistic and has spread to most of the major organs. I visited him yesterday/today, and it's heartbreaking watching him slip away. He's on the big bad painkillers by way of 2 syringe drivers, we all know it's bad news when they are used. The palative nurses are superb, (they deserve to be on footballers wages for what they do) and they have said it won't be long. I'm by my phone, I want it to remain quiet but I know it's coming :(

A bit about my uncle Les. He is not just my uncle, he is like a father to me. He is highly competetive, hates losing at anything (yeah yeah, I know!) and is a big fan of TT games, including RISK and yes, you've guessed it BLOOD BOWL! We talked last week about playing a TT game. sadly he never made the move to FUMBBL, he was not into internet gaming. We did all sorts together, sport/socialising... and we had a few beer/pool/poker game induced run in's along the way as most families do! (he kicks my ass at poker!) None the less, we always have been and will remain very close until I get that call. I'm not particularly religious but I really hope I see Les on the other side.

Why have I put this on here? My blog right? I just want to thank Christer & co for this site, playing/speccing a few games this evening has helped. Now if we can only find a way to employ clawPOMB against cancer.....

Thanks for reading and getting this far. I know I have had a number of run in's here but I feel like I can share this with the majority of you here, because I know the majority of coaches here are good eggs :)

*edit* Got the call @ 04:00 - Les passed away @ 03:30. Damn, gutted. Gonna miss you mate :(

Vent away. I lost my father a couple of years ago and sometimes getting things out of system is the best way to cope. Don't bottle it up.

I hope and think they'll cure cancer someday. I had a long chat with a guy who was central to such things. However, it's not such a comfort to our generation who lose and have lost so many.

Take comfort in the person who is most similar to you in 200 years time won't have to go through the same heartbreak.

My usual response to sad news is to try to make light of it and keep a positive outlook. But it's just not a light matter when death stares you down through a familiar face. Best to you and your family, man. Our sincere condolences.

I know exactly how you feel man. I lost my nan to cancer last week and she was like a mother to me. I can tell you that it's never easy and that you've just got to do with him what you can whilst you can. Hope you keep your chin up though buddy. Best thing you can do.

I would really like to tell you something better for your uncle and your family. But i think only thing of that kind i can say is that i REALLY believe your beloved uncle will be waiting for the rest of us with God.

I know what losing someone before what one expects means, as i lost my father suddenly when he has only 59.

I will pray for him and for you and your family so you can go on best way, never forgetting him but being able to go on with your life and feeling his helf from the sky.

Death is sad, but in time all wounds grow old. Perhaps not less painful, but at least familiar, and perhaps if they aren't easier to bear, then you at least are better at the bearing.
