Dear Christer
On the off chance you actually think this time out discussion is something to worry about, allow me to summarize the important parts:

If the client can be made not to run time during disconnections (which I understand is already being worked on), and early time out pop-up temptation removed as a result, you will find that most of us will manage no problem with courtesy both ways, understanding that other's time matters, and that odd situations come up.

Proceed with whatever you previously saw as a priority

I think you over simplify, just a touch.

Well, plenty, tbh.
Posted by Macavity on 2011-01-22 21:31:28
I over-simplify, absolutely, but since I have yet to see a post where anyone seems to have even considered changing the stance they came in with despite a spin-off thread. As far as Christer is concerned, he may as well stick with what was.

I mean, do you think that your and Arktoris's vastly different views of the importance of phone calls would actually prevent you from enjoying a game against one another?
Posted by Purplegoo on 2011-01-22 21:48:32
No, it wouldn't. Not until the phone rang! I don't hold Arktoris in anything but the highest esteem(and I expect our games will continue to be a blast); but if this came up, if someone knocked on my door to give me some mis-directed mail or something and I lost a game answering it over a difference in opinion...

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack a blog or whatever (or post on this subject at all anymore, but, well, fail :P), but I don't think you can really simplify some message from pages and pages of threads both now and the last time this came up to 'You know what, let's just get on with it once the d/c thing is fixed, we'll prolly be OK in the end'.

To be quite honest, I have yet to see a reason why the answer to this question would be any different to the comprimise he made last time, except it might do what it was supposed to and be a one or two time emergency relief, rather than a free 30 seconds per turn, if you're so inclined.

Anyway, _genuinely_ done on this topic now, with fingers crossed common sense prevails. ;)

I think one of the biggest reasons not to enforce the 4 minute rule is that this is the internet. There can be lag. The client can stall. I've had it happen to me many times. So, yeah, the client does speed up things but sometimes it slows things down. Typing and chatting slows things down unlike TT where it's easy to chat and play. It's supposed to be a fun social game. Anything that discourages that is a very bad thing.

Evo, you double-posted! :)

Triple posted! ;) Or actually 2.5 posted. I added "very" in front of "bad thing" as a minor tweak.
