Goblin survival kit - All advice welcome.
I made this goblin team to play in the Espanglish Lig and I was wondering if any of you have any comments, suggestions or hints on how to keep them alive as long as possible. My first game will be VS Khemri, tomorrow :P

Also, what are your thoughts on the goblin SPs? Chaisaw, Fanatic, Bomber?

I will keep you posted on the carnage.

Goblins are great fun. Just be sure to play mean, and take every opportunity to kill or maim your opponent. It's the goblin way!

Purplechest asked some of us experienced goblin coaches what we thought about the goblin stars. He even gave us a template to use. Here's what I told him:

Ripper' Bolgrot 4 6 1 10 Mighty Blow, Throw Team Mate, Regenerate, Star 70000
Strengths: He can use rerolls. That makes TTM much more reliable. And st6, with a reroll, will give him 3d blocks against almost everyone with just one assist. And since he's not stupid, he can help your other trolls, which is nice. I like to hire him especially when I'm playing dwarves, since he'll soak up a lot of blocks that might otherwise go towards my fragile goblins.
Weakness: No block, but with st6 and av10 he'll still do a good job of tying up a bunch of opposing players. Of course, with ag1 he's easy to tie up himself.
Main Role: Taking up space on the line, tying up opposing players, and and throwing team mates.
Special Features: Nothing really, but having three trolls is pretty cool!
Value for Money: 70k is pretty cheap for a star like this. And Ripper's by far the most reliable goblin star, so you can count on him being there for the whole game. Definitely a good value.
Overall Rating: 8. He's always a solid buy, but if I only had 70k I'd probably go with two of the other stars.

Nobbla Blackwart 6 2 3 7 Frenzy, Right Stuff, Chainsaw, Dodge, Star 40000
Strengths: Chainsaw...now we're talking! A risk-free block or blitz with a nice +3 bonus to the armor roll. I've had games where Nobbla never got sent off by the ref or injured, where he went on to make 10 to 14(!) block/blitzes, absolutely DESTROYING the opposing team. Of course he's better against low av teams, but he's still pretty good against av9. And once that chainsaw starts, your opponent will move heaven and earth to take him out of the game. This means wardancers jumping into your cage (you have him protected in a cage, right?), running right past the ball carrier, and blitzing poor little Nobbla. Of course that leaves the pointy-eared freak surrounded by your trolls and goblins and soon to be fouled to death by one your your dirty players (and you do have more than one dp, right:) ?). And Nobbla does have dodge, which is nice. Frenzy is nice, too, since no one ever expects you to surf someone with him. But I usually just start the chainsaw as soon as possible to get on with the fun. And don't forget that you get a +3 on the roll when you foul with him. Of course it's hard to foul when you're blitzing someone every turn, but it's still nice.
Weakness: Secret weapons get sent off, so there won't be a lot of games where you'll get a whole lot of use out of him. That's why I usually wait to field him until I'm on offense and have 8 turns to play with. But against slower teams this isn't usually a concern. The chainsaw doesn't start sometimes, which isn't cool. And he's really fragile, especially considering the fact that you have to add +3 to every armor roll he makes when he gets knocked over (when the chainsaw is running). That's why it's usually a bad idea to dodge with him, since it's not all that reliable with ag3. I usually just blitz a player that's in one of my teammates' tackle zones when I can, so that I can use Nobbla to assist in the block, should he fail to break the opponent's armor with the chainsaw. Of course the biggest problem I have with Nobbla is that I get so caught up with all the carnage that I forget to score sometimes :)
Main Role: Carving up your opponent and providing a distraction.
Special Features: Secret weapon- he'll get sent off on an 8+.
Value for Money: 40k is a fantastic price for a player like this. Every team would hire him if they could at that price.
Overall Rating: 10. He's definitely the most feared of all the goblin stars.

Bomber Dribblesnot 6 2 3 7 Star, Bomb, Accurate, Dodge 40000
Strengths: He's like an unreliable wizard that can throw a fireball every turn. Good against low ag opponents, especially on defense. A well-placed bomb can break apart a cage pretty easily.
Weakness: Secret weapon, just like Nobbla. And the bomb's not so reliable. It can blow up in his hand, or he can fumble the pass, and hurt your own players. That's why I usually like to keep him away from the rest of the team. Unfortunately, this can increase the range of the pass and make it a bit more difficult to get the bomb where you want it. And the opposition will catch the bomb a lot more often than you'd expect. Of course you don't have to actually throw it at anyone- you can always throw it next to your opponent's players and hope that it scatters somewhere where it will do some damage. Also, don't forget that throwing a bomb is a pass action, so you won't be able to TTM in the same turn (or pass the ball, but you probably weren't going to do that anyways...)
Main Role: Breaking up cages, giving you a free "attack" every turn on top of your blocks , blitzes, and fouls.
Special Features: Secret weapon- he'll get sent off on an 8+.
Value for Money: 40k is a good price for a star, so you can't really go wrong here.
Overall Rating: 5. Bombs are a lot of fun, especially when you get a nice game of hot potato going, but he probably won't help you win as many games as Ripper, Nobbla, or even Fungus. I'd hire him along with Nobbla if I had 80k, though.

Fungus the Loon 4 6 3 7 Ball & Chain, Star 30000
Strengths: Ball and chains are a lot of fun, and definitely one the more underrated secret weapons. He gets at least a 2d block against anyone st5 and lower (assists don't apply), and he can usually give you a free extra "blitz" (or two, or three) every turn. I like to use him when I'm receiving, so I can more or less just move my cage in whatever direction he chooses to go. Don't be afraid to hit your own goblins if you have to with him- with a rerollable 3d block (and dodge on the gobbos), you'll almost always be able to push them. And don't forget that Fungus can help your trolls with their RS rolls if he ends his turn next to them. Fungus is also nice to use when you're kicking against a slow-moving, caging team. He might not be all that reliable, but if it's the 2nd half (or the first half against Khemri or Dwarves), and he's still in the game, he can be pretty useful. At least he'll keep one of your goblins from getting blocked after the kickoff.
Weakness: Fungus can be a real turn-killer. He has to go before anyone else, and if any of his blocks go wrong he's out of the game (at least ko'd) and your turn is over. Also, if he rolls a one at the end of his turn you're all done. Just make sure that you have plenty of rerolls if you're going to use him. And of course he's completely unreliable, as far as movement goes. You can more or less point him in the direction you want to go, but you can't usually get him to block the player you really want to. That's why he's really more useful against slower teams that cage a lot. Also, avoid using him against halflings! St6 trees will ruin your day, especially after the little buggers steal half your rerolls.
Main Role: Causing mayhem, giving you a couple of free blocks (maybe) every turn.
Special Features: Secret weapon- he'll get sent off on an 8+. Of course you might be grateful when he gets sent off, since he can definitely ruin your plans.
Value for Money: Outstanding. 30k is an incredible deal for a player like this.
Overall Rating: 7. I always seem to have an extra 30k sitting around, so I end up hiring him a lot. I wouldn't pick Fungus over Nobbla or probably Bomber, but he's cheap and can be a lot of fun, as long as you have plenty of rerolls.

Scrappa Sorehead 6 2 3 7 Dodge, Right Stuff, Pogo Stick, Star 30000
Strengths: The pogo figure is pretty cool in tabletop. So I guess he has that going for him.
Weakness: This guy's a joke. 4+ leaps? C'mon. And I can gfi 4 times? Well, that's fantastic... There's a reason that the pogo stick rules changed so much in lrb 5. They're pretty worthless in lrb 4.
Main Role: Wasting your money, failing leaps and gfi's.
Special Features: If you somehow do manage to actually do something and score with this clown, you get to give 3 spp's to a star player that can't use them. Sweet!
Value for Money: I'd rather hire assistant coaches or cheerleaders.
Overall Rating: 1. Or 0. Or maybe a negative number. Can we give them negative numbers?

Nobbla is THE best.

My advice for goblin survival is to play on an Orc team and never leave the dugout during play ;-)

Scrappa might be good for sucking up a foul or marking someone without risking anyone you care about.

Let me just make it clear that I may know how to play goblins, but looking at my record it's pretty obvious that I don't actually know how to win with them :)

Goblins are good at low TR, though. Unless you face dwarves. Or anyone with lots of block. That's when you have to get creative... And don't forget to foul as much as goblinly possible!

nobbla. and the bobmba vs low ag teams if u have the spare cash

Awesome logo. And that description of the stars below is spot on.

My current favorite lineup includes Fungus for the sole reason that I can put him up on the LOS with the two trolls and if you kick first not a single regular gobbo has to take an initial hit by the opposing team (unless you've scored... in which case, hey! You scored with goobers! Well done!)

Fungus can be a turn killer, no doubt... but my last game he played till my final lineup (T16 I lined up 2 trolls and a fresh out of the KO box and right under the ref's nose, Fungus the Loon... after a T15 TTM for a score and a 2-1 lead :)

But yeah... sneak hire... foul incessantly... if it irritates your opponent, do it. You're goblins for cry-aye!

.... OH! and those Khemri have no tackle AND no block?!??! You should run through them like they are ghosts.

There is a more serious point to me Orc comment: don't worry too much about casualties -gobs are cheap and plentiful ..until you have to skillz.

Rated 6 for logotype!
