I pre-ordered it. It came in the mail last week. I wouldn't rate it 5 stars by any means but if you have any interest in the hobby and don't mind granny making a few bucks on it then it's worth the watch.

In summary...could have been a lot better but wasn't "god awful".

But.... I HATE Space Marines. I would be more likely to buy a movie about any other race. Make a Squig movie, and I'm there! If I don't buy it, will that lower the number of Space Marines in the world?

The "good guys" being an empire of fascist super-soldiers is just what makes 40k as dark and gloomy as we like it- some of us in any case.
Nonetheless I won't buy it. Given the quality it has to be free of charge or I won't watch it...

Watched it a couple of days ago. Honestly? Pretty poor all round, although I applaud the effort of doing it.

TBH, I wish they would do something truly aspirational and make a film comparable to Chronicles of Riddick. Love / hate aside, I couldn't help but see comparisons in style with how I interpret the 40K universe.

Obviously, the difficulty is funding, but with the very limited script and over-heavy, slow and predictable dialogue that characterises the Ultramaries effort, I can't help but wish they'd spent more on graphics and writers than three big voiceover names.

Nonetheless, metal box packaging is simply perfect.

Purely animated graphics would be fine if its either a) very good (see Warcraft 3) or b) heavily stylised in a suitable way (disney stuff usually comes into this category).

Aside from the graphics (which arent a major issue) any film needs a good plot. Sadly the "straight to DVD" rating and presence of space marines does not suggest a good plot. A better film might feature inquisitors or a necromunda style environment. Anything that has more depth than black, white, and betrayal. I havent watched it yet but I'm expecting there to be little more than black, white, and a build up to a betrayal.

A film about Tau might work but it'd have to be really clever and play off of the alien cultural values.

I just got around to watching the film...

Its fun to watch and the animation is quite good but its not an experience that I would pay more than a couple of quid for. I accidentally gave away the plot in the last comment but after watching it I can say that its a moderately un-boring version of that particular plot (as far as that is possible). My chief gripe is that, having chosen dull source material, they dont actually stick to alot of it. The space marines are way too human, too flawed. Plus they seem to be extremely stupid - the squad is informed "this looks like the work of chaos" after seeing quite alot of mutilated bodies with heads on spikes and MASSIVE chaos symbols everywhere. Some of the conversations feel way out of place.

There isnt alot of trust, respect, or cohesion flying around either. Which are qualities you'd expect from incredibly highly trained elite super-human warriors.

Anyway, worth your time but not your money.
