Popping my FUMBBL cherry
G'day guys, not that anyone will really care but I have decided to chronicle my time on here in this wonderful community, as it gives me something fun to do and I would like to practise my writing anyway. So please do have a read and consider offering feedback as it would be very much appreciated.

It was a frigid -3C* last night in Canberra on June 6th, 2019 when I decided to join this esteemed community and I did so because I was struggling to find the opportunity to play competitive blood Bowl for two reasons:

1)There are very few people in my hometown that play Blood Bowl on tabletop (I Have since found a small league that I am in the process of introducing myself to)

And

2)Having a bit of a garbage computer my only option for Cyanides BB2 is on the PS4 and the competitive scene on that particular platform is... well nigh on nonexistent, which is a crying shame (If anyone is interested in a match however please do hit me up! My PSN Tag is the same as it is on here... which is to say "Pit-Midget")

So after having a smatter about against the very dim witted and laughably "hard" AI on BB2 in order to learn the game I decided to pop on here and give things a go against some real people!

So when deciding to make my inaugural FUMBBL team I was confronted by the age old question; Which team should I take?
After some time of internal discussion I decided, Perhaps foolishly so, to go with.....
Humans!!!
Ew!!! BOOO!!! Why on Earth?
You might say, but that is a very good question!
For one thing I like the idea of the challenge behind humans, they aren't a great team by any means and as a new coach I am sure to be in for many a struggle whilst coaching them, but there's something charming about the challenging "plainness" of them.
They have decent positional pieces in their essential Blitzers, who are able to fill multiple roles, their reliable Throwers able to, funnily enough, reliably pick up the ball and run with the cage and toss it to their athletic Catchers who may lack the AG of their elven counterparts but are quick and handy in a pinch play. as well as having good backup with their lovably lumbering Ogre and their oft considered "bog standard" Lineman of Blood bowl who are capable of slotting into whatever play style you may need to 'adapt' to at any time.. and also good at kicking some poor sods in the face while they're down... not that any self respecting coach would do that.... Right?

Then there is their adaptability itself to consider.
So let me touch on that
!!!!DISCLAIMER!!!!
"All opinions are just that, opinions!"
!!!!END DISCLAIMER!!!!

In my experience Human teams adaptability seems to be more reactionary than proactive by any means, I often find myself bashing because if I don't the elves might dash past me, or throwing the ball around because the Orcs are bashing me...
But that is again why I relish the challenge of Human teams!
My favourite thing about Humans in Blood Bowl is that they will never, EVER, be the best at anything that they'll do, be it throwing spectacular long bombs across the pitch and dashing into the end zone to bashing their opponents face in and.... well dashing into the end zone, but in any given match they'll bloody well put in a good effort while they try their darndest, and I bloody love that!
If any of their daring plays ever gets pulled off against teams more specialised than them then jubilation is sure to follow!

So with that in my head I decided to mold my team after my favourite Sports team: the A.C.T Brumbies RUFC!
In honour of my Rugby teams players, or maybe in err of them... I named my Blitzers after all my favourite Flankers
The Ogre after my favourite Prop and all the linemen after an assortment of tight and loose forwards I rate in my beloved team.
Taking three re-rolls and an Apothecary my team was rearing to go!

So I hit the Pitch, heart in my throat, and spun against a lovely fellow by the name of Necross and his Shambling Undead named simply: Soup Bone!

After an introduction and a quick advanced apology about my being a bit slow being considerably new to the game and the systems of FUMBBL itself he was kind enough to coach to me the fundamentals of the site. Of which I was supremely grateful.

After some initial set up in which I set up defensively without realising I was receiving the ball I struggled my way up the pitch, zigging left and zagging right behind a screen of clueless yet determined linemen!
All was looking well as they locked into a scrum, but alas, Allan Alaalatoa the mighty ogre got separated from the group leaving the rest of the offensive unit to get properly bashed by the Soup Bone legion of corpses in the center of the field who then promptly stole the ball off me only a few yards inside their side of the pitch.
His ghoul runner dashed down the sideline while my gormless players gawked; scrambling to chase him down!
His players positioning themselves to stymie the Brumbies pursuit until a bad block was returned in kind leaving blitzer, David Pocock, to make a last ditch effort to stop the ball carrier.
He charged down the goal greedy ghoul and smashed it toward the sidelines, preventing the scoring play!

"phew"

The Halftime siren sounded and in the sheds the coach (me) was frustrated at his teams lack of offensive initiative but in high spirits because against all odds we stopped the counter play!
The Pit-Midget has always been a more defensive coach, or so he says to himself.. hehe... and our game plan going into the 2nd was to get the ball off the enemy during their drive and score.

Wiping the sweat off my brow my boys entered the second half, Rory Arnold having received a solid concussion by the look of the blood leaking out of his ears and was unable to rejoin the scrimmage, his loss

We set up in my tight 5 formation a man down and kicked off, only for the ball to grubber along pitifully and stop before the halfway line...
Chaos ensued!
The Ghoul carrier dashed to their right hand side of the field and the Brumbies boys put in a mighty effort to set up a screen which held valiantly up until a series of violent blocks forced most of the players to the ground, some in a daze.
Seeing the opportunity the Ghoul made a wild dash and made it a single pace off the endzone.
Defying all odds Samu and Cusack break away from their defenders grasping skeletal hands; knocking the ball loose and managing to retain possession of the ball on the run.
All to the woops and cheers... of their coach alone...
The Undead squad tried their hardest to put pressure on the duo of brave blitzers; eager for the precious point so close yet so far out of their reach, They were perhaps too intimidated by the Brave Brumbies Blitzers steely gazes and decided to instead play dead rather than risk the.. uh... inevitable beating.. yes.. inevitable *Cough Cough.*
Seeing the opportunity the rest of the Brumbies rally around the ball carrier, Samu, who has moved up the pitch.
In a last ditch effort Cusack dashed to the midfield, Samu in tow, the team putting in all the stops and all the blocks pressing hard to prevent the chase, Samu lobs the ball...... and CUSACK CATCHES making a last ditch dash toward the endzone.....
Only for the Final siren to sound a pace off the mark

The Brumbies Inaugural game against the tenacious Soup Bone ends
0-0
For his efforts Tommy Cusack received MVP

In all honesty I got exceedingly lucky with my dice after making several mis-clicks while learning the system, Necross and Soup Bone should by all means have won this match.
I tip my hat to the better coach of the day
Kudos, Necross, Kudos
But it seems that Nuffle smiled down on me this day and blessed me with a draw, which in my eyes and coaching skill set is better than a loss by a mile.
PRAISE THE NUFF!!!
I walked away from this match realising that I have so much to learn about this game to prevent me from constantly being on the back foot in the future, I look forward to playing against coaches who will teach me!

I want to thank Soup Bone coach Necross for being such a champion in this match, he was nothing but helpful and really made me feel welcome. I couldn't have asked for a better first experience on FUMBBL.

Until next time, this is the Pit-Midget signing out!

Welcome to Fumbbl and nice to read your background and story! I hope we meet in the pitch! Oh and a recommendation from my side, once you get the hang of basics, don't stick in ranked but play blackbox. There is to many expert coaches in ranked ''picking'' favourable match-ups.

I am definately also recommending the 145 league as starting ground. The last season just ended and soon we start a new season! Its a friendly learning community.

Welcome! Don't listen to Fancypants. Play in whichever Division you find most enjoyable, and once you're feeling pretty good about your game play, join a league. The League division is where Fumbbl truly shines.
