Loving the league action
Been a little while since my last blog, I blame the new job... but more of that later.

These days I'm not getting a great deal of time to play much in R. That's due to the already mentioned new job, which has seen me working nights quite often and cutting down on the time I get to spend on here.

But it's also because I have been spending my time on Fumbbl playing league matches. I joined the fantastic White Isle League, for us British coaches, and the equally superb OBBA for those of a football fan mindset. Already I'm in my fourth season with the WIL, and just finished the second OBBA season.

Now I started in WIL with a dark elf team - mainly because I'm a rubbish elf player and wanted to learn how to play them better, and also because I wanted to try something other than the usual bash, bash, bash which is probably my strength. I had a dismal first season, failing to win a game, but I enjoyed the experience (seriously) and managed to finish runner up in the regionals in the second season. I even finished third in the conferences in my third season, but had a mangled team and decided to try something else. I'm now chaos dwarves (yes bash, I know, sorry), and have won 2 and lost won so far.

The OBBA is a different story. My lizards have now won two divisions in a row, even after a double promotion in my second season. I'm under no illusions, while I have played well, both leagues are very foul heavy which has a big impact on teams beating each other and who is there or there abouts at the shakeup. I also know the next season in the championship will be a real struggle. Man I need some dp!!

And so to the point of this blog. While I still hanker for the competitiveness of ranked - and it has been a big reason behind my improvement as a player - I think league is really where it is at. I love the R tournaments, and enter them as often as I can, but for the last months I don't think I've even ventured onto gamefinder.

Most of the league players are good people, and you can develop a camaradarie with other teams - cheering each other on and booing for teams you need to lose etc. Plus I really like to develop a team if I can, and league is probably the best place for that. You still get diced every now and then - everyone does - but I get a lot more out of my Fumbbl time playing in league than I do in ranked.

I've lost count of the times I've come on hoping to play a Smack for one of my higher TR teams, but ended up playing a single ranked game that I probably lost 1-0.

This has been a bit of a ramble post to be honest. What I'd say, maybe, is give league a try - whether you're a noob or a top coach - it might just surprise you...
