1st game down!! http://hebbl.co.uk/
So i settled for Dark elves (named Ultra Violence), and am in a division with 3 other teams, Lizards slan and Orcs. The division is made up from all rookie teams, while the Vets are split into two other divisions.

I played the lizardmen (Engine of the Gods) in my opener very tough game, especialy as im not to familiar with the new look Dark elves ;)

Some Match Highlights.

1st half the Gods Krox failed 5 bonehead rolls leading ultimatley to the ball being turned over, thrown into the crowd , then into my half and being recovered by Franki "four fingers" my runner, who broke down the right flank to throw a td pass.

By turn 2 i'd already rolled double skulls.

Saurus Injured 3 skinks ko'd

2nd Half I recieved, Franki, recovered the kickoff and went right again, A ruck broke out in the right widezone on the line, 2 Saurus went into the crowd, The Krox went after Franki, who Handed the ball to "Bullet tooth" Toni and he was away down the pitch to score.

Turkish my Line woman then failed a gfi and got injured (mng) lol

End result 2-0 to Ultra Violence /3-1 on cas (dead skink, dead saurus)

Got 2 skill increases, dodge on Toni(blitzer) and Franki (runner)

Also picked up an apoth after the game.

I face Slaan next week (20th feb) I'll be sure to update after the game =]

Feel free to drop by the Hebbl site

So, i went and had a look at the site, as someone mildly interested in that i live on the edge of herts, and not far from essex. Mind a couple of points of feedback.

1: it states really prominently on the first page that house rules are used. i found this really off-putting and expected to be the standard 'commissioner plays X race therefore Y tactic/skill isnt allowed'(dorf coach is boss, so no wizards for example). OR worse, some non-sensicle monstrosity like NTBB. Actually its just some straightforward 'don't be a douche' rules that i'd expect in any social enviroment. Somehow it could have been either less prominent or better explained, becaue i really neearly gave up the second i saw the warning.

2: Herts and Essex is a HUGE area, and while having both in the title sort of suggests where they meet is the expected centre of the actual locations of the coaches, no where did i find it made clear and obvious where i might be expected to get to. The far side of essex is a very long way from here (and a long journey to get to those parts of essex just doesnt ever make sense without pay)

3: 7 day schedules are pretty tricky on the internet. Probably its just my chaotic lifestyle, but without there seeming to be either 'a' place or 'a' time, scheduling looks like a pain.

4: Outside of those niggles it looks great, seems organised, and the site itself is clear and easy to use.

So while i have promised myself some TT BB this year, doesn't look like it will be with hebbl. I wish you massive good fortune with it, and certainly it seems well organised and effectively run.

Hi PC.

Before I moved house, it looked like I might join HEBBL (I then moved too far away and found a different club, link’s in my bio). They (HEBBL) are a good group of guys, but (as I’m sure they’d admit themselves) they’re a smallish group that play a variety of games (BB is not their sole focus), and we see them on the TT circuit but twice a year (NAFC and the Dungeonbowl). The house rules et al would also worry me, but if they have fun in their vacuum, great. I understand Zy-Nox is an old school (before my time) English Eurobowl coach, so it would be great if the league was his route back into TT BB.

I understand you’re London-ish based? If so, you should look up the ECBBL. It’s one of England’s ‘big three’ leagues. They meet every Tuesday in the Mason’s Arms pub (I forget exactly where, near St. Pancras). The league contains three of England’s best and most travelled coaches, and a fair few more besides. Even if you don’t want to commit to a weekly league (I actually think they play every fortnight or so), I’m sure if you turned up for a beer one evening they’d be most welcoming. The recently ex-NAF president plays there, and he’s notorious for selling BB to anyone he meets.

Not that I want to feed the blackshirts more good coaches. I quite like them not being the biggest dogs around these days. ;) If that’s no good for you, if you let me know where you live (not exactly, I’m not a weirdo…), I can probably recommend you your local nerd hole.

Anyway, I’ll update the UK tournament thread at some point. Waterbowl this weekend, one of the jewels in the crown!

Where does hebbl play?
It doesn't make it clear on the site

Kings Cross/St Pancras is but 20 mins from me ona train, im in east barnet, northern tip of london. The ECBBL would seem a logical place to start looking for sure. Really i was thinking one of 'your' Tourneys might be a good jumping in point. Nice and self contained.

Despite trawling my e-mail, I can’t find the location. Despite the fact that I have been! :) Zy-Nox can perhaps update?

PC – my tournament has a doubles / pairs theme, and my partner likes it to run biannually (this is our year off). I am reffing at the NAFC this year, and that’s as good a start point as any. I’ll be happy to recommend you something good I’ll be at, depending on your travel limits?

Hebbl can use the facilities of Harlow games club(broad range of games get played there.) Which meets on a tuesday night in harlow,(the only day i cant play...lol) Other than that its down to the coaches to arrange their games, which i prefer, as i have a really busy life. As much as i like a league that plays on a set night in a pub, Hebbl suits my needs.
If you join ECBBL purplechest, be sure to say hi to the guys for me ;)
