Re: 'This is Blood Bowl'
A response to "This is Blood Bowl..."

While none of us like seeing our teams destroyed by fouls remember that it IS a perfectly valid tactic in Blood Bowl, and really no worse than blocking with skills like MB, claw, RSC rather than DP to encourage injuries.

But why I'm really writing this is because I don't think that game was really that bad. I watched the replay and I would like to point out that you could have either avoided one of his 4 fouls (or better yet, had his 2nd DP sent off) by not fouling back near the end of the first half. 4 fouls received (3 cas, one KO) is really not that awful.

My advice in that situation (naturally i've been in the same situation myself!) is to try your best to remove any dirty players as they cause the most permanent damage. Either by blitzing (start early in the game when you still have players!) or by waiting for the ref to notice them.

Anyway, hope you're all vented out and watch out for those halflings next time!! The poor little tykes have very little going for them except plenty of cheap foulers :P

I commented to the linked post above "This is Blood Bowl" so I'll make a short comment here. I don't disagree with your take on it, but should we really have to play the game to avoid being fouled? I mean, even when I'm down 2 TDs and missing players, I still try to play to win. Or at least play to tie. And if I can't do either, I want to play to score and get SPPs. I hate being forced to retaliate foul for foul in the hopes that it will make the opponent score faster. I've learned there is no mercy in Bloodbowl, so I don't even ask for the opponent to back off. But if neither retaliation or submission have any chance of getting the other guy to ease up, I'm going to retaliate just for the slim chance of killing one of his better players. It won't teach him a lesson, but it will make me feel better.

Ok, so that wasn't so short after all. I do agree with your statement that the best tactic is to remove those DPers from the game as early as possible, and I've started trying to do that in my recent games. The problem with this strategy is that it takes my focus off of moving (or defending against) the ball, which could result in me losing the game because I was so worried about the fouling that would occur later in the game. So we're back to the issue of choosing between playing the game for fun or completely adjusting our strategy to handle an excessive fouler. I'm finally starting to realize why there are such heated opinions about fouling and Dirty Player in LRB 4+. I'm starting to become a believer in LRB 5.
