ARR! A box metagroup.
The Blackbox has always been a dangerous place. Privateers roam the high seas, their war chests overflowing with more wealth than they will ever use. Bands of thugs are all too eager to hoist black sails and slaughter women and children and halflings and halfling women and halfling... but I digress. The Blackbox has orphans. Groups of huddled masses that rarely dare to show their heads - and consider themselves lucky to have heads at all. In the ye old days, may they rest in peace, it was easy to see who these abandoned races be:

Race Games Played
Chaos 36770
Chaos Dwarf 30092
Orc 24695
Nurgle 23421
Dwarf 23200
Chaos Pact 20757
Necromantic 19901
Human 18237
Dark Elf 15390
Norse 15308
Skaven 15049
Undead 15005
Lizardmen 14577
Wood Elf 13744
Khemri 11605
Amazon 11166
Slann 6767
High Elf 6728
Underworld 6601
Vampire 6204
Elf 5890
Goblin 4064
Ogre 3865
Halfling 2822

'Lubbers and Pombers claim the spoils while the good and honest folk scrabble for the leavings. In this new era the Blackbox is in some ways even more brutal whilst at the same time offering a glimmer of hope for the most neglected.

On this, the fifth day of the first month of the first year of the great sea change I issue a call to arms. No longer will the meek and abandoned races of the Blackbox remain downtrodden: for lo, I bring thee tidings of great plunder to pillaged. Chests of coins to be looted, gangs of thugs to be retired, badges to be won!

Think of the glorious stories you will tell your grandchildren of being the first of your name to earn fame in the first ever Abandoned Races Race! Season I: Out of the Chaos is already underway! Captain my captain, you ask, on what parchment must I make my mark? On no parchment at all my feeble minded friend, you are already entered! All ships crewed by Slann, High Elf, Underworld, Vampire, Elf, Goblin, Ogre or Halfling are at this very moment sailing the high seas in the ARR!

Participating teams of the ARR! crewed stoutly enough to finish up to 16 consecutive games during the course of koadah's recently kicked off Black Box Sprint will be scored according to regular sprint rules:

Results are from the best 'sprint' of 16 consecutive qualifying games. Games qualify when either the team or their opponents are over 1400TV, or when your teams is ogres, halflings or goblins at any TV. (Win = 3pts, draw = 1, loss = 0)

Booty will be divided evenly - and with garroting kept to an absolute minimum - as follows:

1. The top three finishers in the ARR! will be rewarded with riches beyond their comprehension (IE, a badge. Please someone come and talk to me about this because mine will be terrible if I do it myself).

2. The top finisher of each of the 8 ARR! races will receive the best of breed (BOB) award for season I (IE, another badge).

3. Verily, even greater spoils than this rich bounty await the successful and less successful participants in the ARR! They will be announced at some super secret later date when other people shower me with good art.

If this be not enough authentic pirate slang for feisty dogs such as ye be, then swagger over to the group page and enter a team in the ARR! This is not needed to claim your booty, but those brave few among you who so dare will be subjected without mercy to regular group PMs, about which rumors abound - will they really put hair on your chest? Is there free grog? How are they able to include so many valuable money saving coupons and still turn a profit? And so on.

So release the ravens and spread forth the news far and wide that all may find their true calling by becoming a royal pain in the

(Thanks to The_Murker for the great banner!)

super!

we have to apply?
Posted by Dunenzed on 2013-12-20 07:37:11
Applying gets you in the Group for PM purposes, but any team from the eight abandoned races playing in the box are captured by the Sprint. So no, it's not strictly necessary to apply, however it does have some value if you choose to do so.

Are you planning on using an existing team or joining the pirate fun?

"Slann, High Elf, Underworld, Elf, Goblin, Ogre or Halfling" are only seven. Somebody forgot to mention the Vamps? That's understandable! How do vamps and pirates even fit together?

At any rate, Capt'n Roach and his crew are boarding ship this very moment. Not that they knew how to sail, mind you. But it never stopped them before. :D

Also, the number of games played is pretty interesting! So out of an average 10 games of Blackbox, 5 will be vs. Bashers, 3 of them C-POMBers. 2-3 will be vs. Hybrids, 2 vs. AG-Teams and 0-1 vs. Stunties. You will play an average half of your Box games vs. seven races, the other half vs. the remaining 17.

Where did you get those numbers from? Is it possible to get them for Ranked, too? :)
Posted by happygrue on 2013-12-20 12:09:24
@Verminardo: Vamps are welcome, it was a simple clerical error not to include them. Needless to say, that clerk is now swiming with the fishes.

The numbers come from the Blackbox data that koadah has collected, I don't think ranked data is available.

Very nice initiative! I applied my suitable box teams (and will add my halflings if I ever get them ready to play again), just for the sake of being in. I don't expect to play (m)any box games with those teams soon.

But I love to compete in such meta-groups in general.

Good luck with it and have fun!
Posted by happygrue on 2013-12-20 13:16:23
All teams will be tracked regardless of if they apply. If you want to apply, you only have to use one team (that adds you to the group so you get any PMs), but applying with more teams for the fluff of it (they want to be a part of the action!) is fine too. :D

The minimum TV limit is now removed! However, due to limitations of the current system you need to make the top 250 of ALL races before you make the list.
Posted by Overhamsteren on 2013-12-20 22:11:34
All 8 races or all 24?

Also I'm a noob and can't navigate to the page from which grue got the 'games played' numbers, anyone got a link for poor little me?
Posted by happygrue on 2013-12-20 22:52:39
Edited to include vamps along with the list of the 8 available races in the ARR!

Games played comes from koadah's Blackbox data, which I think you can get to from his blog (which I linked to above), but here is how you do it: http://www.cmanu.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bb/stats/stats.html

Then select the "Pre Scheduler Fix" (default is post), and click get data. Then click the "played" tab twice to sort descending by number of games played. That's I posted in the blog. Of some interest is that if you sort by win percentage you get almost the same list of 8 at the bottom, but pro elf gets swapped out for orcs. Win percentage is much harder to make useful though, as things like TV, coach level and other stuff factor in.

Note that at the time I launched the group (and still currently), the 7 of the 8 were still at the bottom in terms of games played with the new scheduler changes. Woodies are down and goblins are up - but the sample size is tiny still. Let's see if it holds true in another month... ;)
Posted by Overhamsteren on 2013-12-21 09:29:21
Thanks, gonna put it somewhere where I can find it :O

Before the minimum TV-limit was removed I was wondering if Norse deserved a spot too, they are indeed the 10th least played when you set lower TV to 1400k.

Of course Amazons are the 9th least played and no one likes those. :D
Posted by happygrue on 2013-12-21 13:46:12
Yeah, I agree on both counts. ;) My original vision was more complicated - like a reverse E.L.F. where you get points for playing lots of different races by category, but that idea needs some more work and when you look at the dropoff in games played it seemed that adding a digit to the number of games played seemed to be a clear dividing line that produced the nice round number of 1/3 of races. Perhaps other things can still be done in the future. :D
