A Box Full of Money!
My first blog launching ARR was from December 20th, 2013, which was about a week after the box scheduler change IIRC. That means we’re rolling up to some important milestones. One YeARR later we have a box that is still not “perfect” - whatever that may be - but is quite entertaining for a wide variety of races at the lower to middle TV ranges.

We have a new client packed with tricks enough to dirty up the shiney new pitches! We have a road that I am told leads to the NAF championships! We have had a number of new site improvements and still some people have found time to monkey around! But it wasn’t all fun and games. Well, in a certain sense it *HAS* been all fun and games, but bear with me - I’m making a larger point here. We have had server trouble and replaced hardware. We have had twitter updates of power outages and SSL certificate updates and site maintenance. And by “we” here I mean “Christer and Kalimar and a few other people do the work and the rest of us get to play games”.

So in celebration of all this, OenarLod and I have decided to take this next two month season of our respective Black Box metagroups (HLP and ARR) and show that those of us fighting to make the ‘Box a better place can make a difference.

Thus begins “A Box Full of Money”, the great HLP and ARR fundraiser. Over the current season (Dec 1st through Jan 31st) OenarLod will pledge to donate $1 for each HLP or HLC sprint completed. Likewise, I pledge to donate $1 for every completed ARR sprint. In addition to this, one of us will kick in an additional $5 if our group has the fewest completed sprints. But that’s not all! We officially invite human teams into the Dec 31st ARR Brawl (enter human and ARR teams into the Black Box Brawl on that day) and whichever side has the fewer BBB titles out of it will kick in another $5.

So to wrap it up: For every ARR team that plays 16 games in the box over the next 2 months I’ll give $1 to FUMBBL and OenarLod will give $1 for each Human team that does the same (with bonus monies in the offing depending on the results). I know what you’re thinking - and yes this will be a blast. And since [holiday guilt] ‘tis better to give than to receive[/holiday guilt], you can play the game and/or join us by matching our pledges!

I’ll keep a tally of two different pledge levels:

  1. DonatARR! ($1 for each ARR sprint, something like 15-25 if we go by past seasons, but may be more with $$ on the line)

Strength and Honor! ($1 for each Human sprint, probably roughly similar numbers)

If we get 15 more matching pledges for each pledge level then that would translate into *each* game of a human or ARR sprint turning into $1 for FUMBBL! If you are flush with funds, throw a multiplier on there and pledge one or more times at the human level and one or more times at the ARR level and help drive up the interest!

For example, you could pledge once at the human level and three times at the ARR level - because we’re better, clearly… ;) My best guess is that such a pledge would be worth around $100 but it really depends on what happens with the sprints. And when you think about it, what kind of a price tag would you really put on dirty tricks cards? :D

So get out there and fill the box with money!

EDIT: I forgot to add, please PM me all donation pledges, I'll try to watch topics and such, but it will help me track and update if I get PMs.

Off to a good start! A few minutes in and we're at ARR x2, HLP x3, and whichever one wins gets an additional pledge!

I pledge to win Fumbbl!!!!

There can be only one!

Oh wait...

Nevermind :)

Well Bill, if no one makes your grand fling $100 challenge for the box I'm going to come knock on your door with a large suitcase... :P

Hmmm...

It might be HElf time.

The secret to brilliant coaching on Fumbbl appears to be a heads-in-a-circle family selfie. Maybe I should get my (equally-sized and similarly-aged) brood together for a shot to improve my game.

I could do that as well... Is the key not including your wife in the selfie?
Posted by Throweck on 2014-12-02 09:41:20
I could also do that. :)

Looking forward to sprinting!

Awesome sauce!

I can't afford to pledge anything right now (and if so, I'll do a simple donation again), but I'll try to get a few games in... preferably with one team. ;-)

If the Badge Hunters complete a cycle, I'll also know if or if not they got the "Closed Shop" badge this time (which is unlikely). Just not sure if sacrificing almost all of one's playing time to get mangled in high TV Box games is worth it. :-P Maybe High Elves instead... we'll see. Incidentally, both teams kicked of the season with Brawls. :-)

Wife appears not to matter: PeteW's is in the pic, happy's is not, Azure's was not. Depends who you think is the best coach I guess! ;) ;) ;)

Hehe, My wife wasn't around the day I took this picture. Everyone was in a good mood and no one had applesauce all over themselves, so it was a rare moment when such a picture is possible.

Update: some pledges are getting a bit creative and specific but if we round it off we're at something like $5 per sprint ARR, or Human!

I just made and applied new team in both ARR and HLP (well in last 24hrs).

Im just wondering... if their (hopeful) sprints will count here or not? like is it just Premiership teams in HLP or are Conferance teams good to?.. either way makes no differance I'll still play them anyway haha *thumbsUp*
Posted by happygrue on 2014-12-22 20:37:07
Yeah, any ARR or human teams will count! Just get the sprints done by Jan 31st!
