GTO free weekend
gametable online has games such as axis and allies (original and revised), acquire, battle cry and robo rally. they normally charge for most of their games but from now through sunday all of their games are free to play. after you sign up, if you're having trouble finding the gaming area, use this link http://www.gametableonline.com/play and click the 'launch lobby' button.

edit: i forgot to mention in the original post that you can play demos of each game by accessing the games page on the website. at the bottom of the page there is a link to launch a java demo. a small pop up of the rules will launch with the game as well. makes it easier to figure out what the game is all about and how to not play at a horrifically slow pace before jumping into live play with real people.

How is Axis and Allies? I havnt played that since I was a kid, and even then we prolly didn't play it right.

i only tried playing it once and one of the players got disconnected and didn't come back. it was alright i guess. i mostly play battle cry and acquire.

Neat, I had no idea some of these games were made into online versions. I haven't played A&A in ages, and probably last played Robo Rally about 10 years ago (at which point we all thought it would be better as a computer game, but still enjoyed it).

i find robo rally to be really annoying, i only mentioned it because i know a lot of people like it.

Do they have Diplomacy?!?... I'd waste a weekend on Diplomacy...

my personal recommendations are acquire and battle cry. acquire is an odd tile placement/buy and sell game. and battle cry is civil war battle simulations where you use cards to determine which troops can take actions on your turn. for you jeffro, i'd recommend you at least try Robo Rally and Guillotine.

here is a list of all the games they have http://www.gametableonline.com/play

Oh no diplomacy is evil, pure evil, i´m telling you. I´ve had good friends refusing to talk to each other for months because of that game.

i looked up diplomacy on board game geek and i remember the time i saw it in action now. it was down at the local hobby shop. about five or six guys were finishing setting it up when i got there. they looked like they were about to play a game that they really liked. i played a game of settlers, a game of Ra and a game of something else. after that, a group of us decided to go get something to eat at the Applebee's that was nearby. at this point, about three hours had passed in the diplomacy game, and the five or six guys that were playing still looked like they were having fun. about two hours later we get back from applebee's and the diplomacy game is still being played. only this time, theres one guy with an ear to ear grin and everyone else at the table looks like they were in complete misery. the game wrapped up about 45 minutes later, and all the losers immediately left the hobby store (none of them looked like they were too happy), leaving the store manager and the winner of the diplomacy game to put back all the game pieces in the box. on my way out the store, the guy that won says to the store manager, 'i hope those other guys aren't too mad about how that game went', to which the manager replied, 'i told you guys not to play that game.'

I was great at Diplomacy.

I wonder if anyone can guess why :)

A lack of moral fibre?

Because you are a dirty, lying, deceiving, mean old bastard? :)

Great diplomacy story, liz, thats how the game goes. I love it, but its a) very exhausting and b) evil.

Diplomacy: voted the game Most Likely to End Friendships by the inhabitants of BoardGameGeek.com.

We still have arguments about diplomacy games a decade old.
