Back in Block! Episode 1 - Introduction
So I'm back here, revisiting Blood Bowl, revisiting Fumbbl. Reflecting on everything thats happened to this site since I joined in 2005. Many things are the same, many things are different.

Have rules for greater 'house rule' control been added to [L]eague division yet?

I love this community, and the core rules of Blood Bowl are solid, but I always have had a nagging feeling about the effect skills have on the game and player progression/team development side of the game. Just over 1000 games played on this site is a lot to reflect on, with probably two games or more spectated for every game I've played on here. Sure I've seen LRB4 and the new LRB6/CRP, and the small changes between, none of which really changed some of the core flaws I see in the game.

I've often wanted to make my own rulebook of the game, making changes to rosters, skills, and whatnot, as I see fit, but I quit playing here a while ago because I was bored with what I considered the 'formula' for every game not really changing that much in the grand scale of games. The 'formula' of skill choice and team development not really leaving much wiggle-room in creating effective players on the field.

I won't do it all here, but I'm going to spend some time looking at how the rules work now, and post about it all later. I don't think the core of the game needs to change, just some of the bells and whistles that keep it interesting for long format league play like this site has been geared towards, and who knows, maybe if [L]eague customization is implimented, I might be able to do some things about it. Or maybe my ideas might just be interesting enough for those options to be made available if they aren't already.

Enjoy your Blood Bowl, I enjoyed many hours here with many persistant personalities on the site and in the IRC, if anyone reads this I encourage you to join the Fumbbl IRC if you haven't already, its a great place.

Lol@ 'Persistant Personalities' - very diplomatic.
Good luck with your ideas and will be interested to read more

I know the feeling, I think after years of essentially the same game (20+ for many, since 3rd Ed. landed) you get a hankering for something different, if familiar. (There are alterive FF games too, just not with the same following).

Locally, years ago, we stayed with the BB base machanics but toyed with a d20 based system, including 0-20 on stats, with d8/d10 block dice, to move the game to even more skill than luck based. Kind of our bastardised version between 2nd and 3rd ed.

Split out skills with tiers (eg. Offensive/defensive block, dodge, tackle) improved passing %s to give a "3rd" option. (Bash, rush, pass)

Left depitching %s (Ko, Inj, Death) as more drive based - a strat for scoring rather than team management/player turnover & Death, though still a low chance of that. (Tried to solve team management through earnings/ability to fund a team). Managed more focus on scoring on your drive than clock management.

It actually turned out to be a pretty fun and balanced game eventually, and though rooted in BB it played fairly differently. Enjoyment I felt was more due to the fact of being rooted in BB than improvement though, without the randomness and (arguably) unfairness it lost something.

Often thought I'd like to see things shaken up with something completely different ala 2nd->3rd Ed. I worry that if we're left with just LRB6 things will stagnate and die off. Maybe we'll see it with the BB revival GW is planning? ;)
