A point in the right Direction
G'day Guys, Pit-Midget again with another self reflective "blog."

It has come to my attention that I have far more to learn about this game than I originally thought and being new to the game I lack the experience and knowledge that brings to be able to actively improve my coaching via my own devices outside of the more obvious blunders I often make.
I genuinely would like to get good at this game as it is loads of fun and incredibly accessible due to this amazing site.
So my query to you, fellow FUMBBLers, is this:
Could you please help me get better?
Point me in the direction of coaches I can emulate, replays I can analyse and if you play me I would appreciate some feedback on my performance in general.
I am aware that I can learn by just playing matches but if i'm not taking anything I can learn away from those matches then that match in general was wasted in that endeavour.
I will be asking Coaches in my future games for advice after matches as I think that would be a good start, but there are so many directions I can take that i am probably completely unaware of.
I just need solid Feedback
I look forward to playing you all in the future!
Cheerio!

Hey. Good attitude! Much of it comes from experience, so part of it is to keep playing.

One thing stands out just from looking at dice stats: you (mostly) shouldn't throw -2d blocks. These are only for special occasions when your team is in dire straits. (if you have block vs non-block... maybe more ok).

Advice from my experiences:

Get to the 145 club as fast as you can and start playing there - really supportive environment for new players. Helped me learn a lot.

Don't play in Ranked, because it's dreadful - more experienced coaches will spot your weaknesses and pick games with you where you have little chance of winning. Which is silly, because what do they learn?

Do play in Box. It used to be a hellhole where every team you played was full of Claw-Pile On-Mighty Blow murder machines, but that was before my time and it's pretty good now for newish players. But as it's pretty competitive, I'd learn positioning and get strong on the client through 145 first.

Don't be scared of -2d blocks. But as spelledaren says, there's a time and a place for them. If the opposing team has a big guy without block, and you have a reroll, you stand a good chance of putting him on the floor and it'll be hard for him to get back up again.

And play in a league. That's almost always more fun than a procession of random people you don't know. If you're in Australia, get in the SWL (you've missed the most recent season, but there's always people who'll give you a game in the SWL Fringe)

Cheers guys, I felt like I had no choice but to give those half dice a shot in my last game, mind you I was in an experimental mood and could have probably tried to dodge and whatnot but like I said I have much to learn, I'll keep it in mind.
I shall check out both those Leagues too, I appreciate the responses!

If you want to be a guy who eventually has more wins than losses, don't be in a hurry to lose 100 games.

Try and learn something every game, and apply that one thing you have learned to every game after.

Make sure you have a copy of the rules, and understand how the most important skills and rules work. If unsure, ask.

Use GUARD skill. Beware Guard skill on enemy players. Beware frenzy skill. Beware the sidelines! (Don't use frenzy skill until you get better at the game)

Learn to make a cage, practice making cages, and then practice moving one down the field.

And ask yourself, every game, "What is the point of trying to run through the enemy cage and tackle the ball carrier if there is no one close by after to pick up the ball?" The answer is almost always, THERE IS NO POINT.

If you are going to be stupid and try something crazy on defense, try it in the last 2 or 3 turns of a half.. not in the first few turns. You will get punished far less. Before that, learn to make your defensive wall, 2 players thick, and hold your ground. Use Guard and big orks to do so.

If you want one fundamental task to practice each game, I can give you one. If I see you do it in the replay, I can give you another, and so on.

And best of all.. have fun. Be a good sport, with a positive attitude, and don't time people out. So many reasons not to time out an opponent. Letting everyone enjoy a complex turn or two every game is one great reason.

Welcome to FUMBBL!
