I think it's true, mostly because if two top coaches face off, the game can be swung by small differences in dice. When a rookie coach beats a top coach because of dice... it's usually really the dice that make the difference (exceptions exist, of course).

I just don't think you should accept a match against a coach knowing that dice may or may not play a factor. Any match could be a dice match and I'm getting kind of sick of other coaches complaining about dice when they lose. To me it's more of a case of coaches getting frustrated losing to lower ranked players and not realizing in the moment of frustration skill may be more of a factor than they realize.

Most of the time, when a coach mentions the dice..

..they are just looking to see if the other coach even realizes what just went down.

If I pull off a move that shouldn't have much of a chance for success, I usually toss in some kind of line indicating my luck. In contrast, if my opponent is getting less than favourable dice, I like to give Nuffle a hard time about it ("Nuffle, you Jerk!" or "C'mon Nuffle, play fair!")

I like to compare BB to poker when it comes to luck, because I believe it has the same skill to luck ratio: that is, 60% skill, 40% luck
(on average; obviously some players are seriously talented, and some games the dice variance is higher)

So what you do when chatting at a poker table, to keep the bad players there, and have someone to play against, is to play up the luck factor. Tell them they have been unlucky when they mess up. Tell them you were lucky when you beat them. Anything to keep them feeling like they have a shot (which they always do, because of luck).

Bad players are usually the ones to moan about luck, and usually they don't have a good grasp of probability, so this tactic generally works.

Not that I do this when playing FUMBBL! I like to think i'm more honest :)

Ha! Love the poker comparison much more suited than the overused chess comparison (its one of the things that can keep people playing in frustration for months). I myself have compared it to poker.

I have no real knowledge about poker but would have assumed luck is much bigger factor there then it is in bloodbowl. 60% skill only seems way to less i feel....kind of disillusioning....but then if the number is a better guess then i assume - more chances for me ofc.
