Finding a game at 7:00 BB time
I get home from work during the week at 7:00 BB time. Finding a game at that hour is the worst idea possible. About the only people online are the SAME pixel hugging addicts. Night after night I see the same damn names on gamefinder....each night the same pixel huggers don't accept any matches. It is very frustrating. If I had flings and offered up some matches I would probably find games, but I don't.

I am without a doubt, not a great coach and I love playing BB. But, I am tired of not being able to find games because everyone just dodges games. I try blackbox and all of 2 coaches activate during these hours...it never works.

Rant over.

Pickers gonna pick!

Ogres, flings, gobbos, vampires, slann and underworld will get you plenty of games ;)

play L.

enter a league, or more than once, schedule your games beforehand. there is no limit to the amount of league you can join - ideally you could join seven legues and have a planned game for each day of the week.

that, of course, woud require around 30 seconds to actually write to your league opponent. I suppose, you wait more than 30 seconds on the gamefinder, right?
Posted by Garion on 2014-07-15 10:14:06
yeah tricky one, there are some bad pickers out there that I always see on game finder too and who seemingly never accept games. They do exist but are few in number, if you wait another 3 or 4 hours from that time though game finder hots up considerably. Not sure if that helps much.

Well that's just the worst time. That's 7 in the morning, dude! And where you live, it's in the middle of the night! I guess it's a civilized time in Australia. Isn't there some Australia/Pacific based league?

If you're talking about some guys who seem to sleep on GF a few hours before as well, nope: they won't accept games vs flings or gobos either. :D

Also, have you tried IRC? I know it's rather dead, and probably even more at that time, but I often find games by simply asking in the chat when I'm tired of GF.
Posted by sann0638 on 2014-07-15 14:40:57
GF quite often means girlfriend, which makes those last two comments entertaining.
Posted by Kam on 2014-07-15 14:48:08
Those are pickers too!
Posted by Lorebass on 2014-07-15 16:56:46
Agreed, get a league that plays in your time zone or go on #fumbbl in IRC and ask for a game, at the very least there you might get someone to talk to about not getting games...

I wish there was a rule in the gamefinder that if you don't accept a game withing 20 minutes or so you get kicked off back to your coach page.

I feel ya NerdBird. I usually play between 2:00 and 8:00 (Pacific Time Zone) and there are some nights where it takes over 2 hours to even get a game. I wish there was some way to offer up my teams in Box for a game when traffic is a dead minimum. I don't know if I have the patience to develop 20 something more teams just for ranked.

If there is never anyone on how about getting some [L]eague action going.

Or get night work. Then you can play at Euro times ;)
Posted by oryx on 2014-07-15 20:04:19
You complain about not getting games, but you run hyper-min-maxed undead (126 tv after 20 games? really?) and mostly dwarves. Are you really that surprised? I don't "pick" away from dwarves - I simply don't enjoy playing against them all that much. I imagine your high elves get games now and again...

Everyone on here knows who the people are populating game finder with countless teams that rarely play. I am guessing that is why they have so many teams, because they keep starting new teams since it is easier to find games.....and they get a few stats on the new team and start pixel-hugging that one.

I love my players too but I will sacrifice any player in any match if it means I can win. If he dies, just start a new one.

I find myself accepting games that are not necessarily fun but are all I can get. I find in these non-competitive games my interest wanes and I make mistakes for lack of attention. The games against good opponents and even match-ups are a lot of fun and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Posted by awambawamb on 2014-07-15 20:47:59
to make them competitive, just think that you have to win.
Posted by Garion on 2014-07-15 20:50:32
Use a wider variety of races. Works for me. I have recently had Norse, undead, wood elves, high elves and chaos on game finder. Someone is always willing to play one of them really quickly.
Posted by NerdBird on 2014-07-15 20:51:16
@Onyx: My undead just always have a ton of money. I can literally start over at any point. Regen has been very kind to them as well. I will probably buy a wight and a ghoul after the next game and can a zombie....

And yeah, I like playing with Dwarfs. My record is so-so. I usually throw up my high elves and have a hard time getting fair matches with them as well. Right now, I lost my only tackler and a great catcher so I can't just roll against anyone:-P

Woodies....I just can't get the grasp on them and make it over a few games.
Posted by Garion on 2014-07-15 20:59:20
Read my wood elf guide on plasmoids site.
Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-07-15 21:25:07
You know, if only there was some kind of environment where you could randomly be assigned opponents every 15 minutes and nobody could pick or duck games...

Booom! Blackbox owns!

Looks back wistfully and recalls the days of gamefinder linked to irc :).
Oh how we chatted to arrange matches.
but the times are a changing a lo we have new gamefinder and blackbox embrace
the new.

I second Garion's recommendation to read his Wood Elf guide. Also read the Skaven guide. Both of those have helped my elf/skaven play in my Leagues (though not necessarily my record).

I'm at work at that time, but if we can get enough Boxers, I'll take a lunch break to activate for a game or two.
Posted by NerdBird on 2014-07-16 02:02:38
I try activating in the box at those hours and there are very few people. Usually 2 or 3.
Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-07-16 02:51:11
I know, I'm one of them ;)
Posted by keggiemckill on 2014-07-16 02:54:26
we can always go and arrange game on the irc. No one says you cant.

Bowlbot needs to go to twitter.
Posted by oryx on 2014-07-16 08:01:12
@NerdBird The point is undead at 126 are so strong, most people won't want to play them unless they're working toward being better or are playing an equally strong race. If you want to get games with undead, get them to 170 or 190... you'll find games.

With dwarves, who wants to play dwarves? Clawpombers. Against everyone else they're usually very dominant, with a high cas, low-td, low cas in return statline. Who wants to play taht game? It's like "my gameplan is to shut you down and make sure you never do anything fun. Want to play?" Would *you* want to play dwarves with your high elves? Even for your undead, I bet dwarves are around the bottom of your "preferred opponent" list. Just saying!

Joining a time zone specific league can help. Australian evenings are even worse (bbtime ~= 12:00).
Posted by jmonforton on 2014-07-19 07:23:06
Maybe instead of offering your bashing teams against only av 7 and the like you could accept an offer of a relatively equal elf game v your high elf or something like that it might help... couldn't hurt. You never know you might get a game. Just offered my high elf, my skaven and my elf or my non bashy chaos against your high elf. You didnt go for any of them... not sure you can complain too much.
