y-UK! (part 1)
"The police arrested 10 people before the protest began on suspicion of conspiracy to cause criminal damage."
(from this article)

I knew something about funny things that happens in Ye Merry Olde England, but...
  • Police arresting people before anything has even began.
  • On suspicion of something; still not sure about.
  • The "something" was conspiracy; that could be like, meeting in a pub and talk poorly of prince Charles.
  • Suspicion to conspire to cause something; something that could happen but also CANNOT.

Preventive police?

Our police are psychic

Prevention is the first principle of policing by consent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peelian_Principles

Unfortunately a lot of those principles, and the concept behind them, appear to have been lost.

Those do-gooders were up to something!

How dare they protest and affect Eon's profits.
Posted by DukeTyrion on 2014-09-13 13:33:41
You could just do what they do in Italy.

Instead of questioning them, just shoot them!

"during the first day groups of up to several hundred people pulled down security fencing at a number of points around the plant"

So in other words the police were right.

Why do you find it strange that hanging round private property in groups with equipment for the illegal entry into or damage of that property is reasonable enough for the police to charge you with conspiracy to do just that?

To put it another way, if someone who does not live on your street is hanging around your street at night with a bag of tools and is not involved in any activity or occupation that might reasonably require them, would you think it unnacceptable for a policeman to question or charge them for going equipped to steal?

Conspiracy is an entirely reasonable charge as long as the burden of proof is rigorous.
Posted by dode74 on 2014-09-13 15:24:26
Personally I would find that unreasonable of the policeman. mens rea (as opposed to "mens, kill all") is the relevant concept in criminal law.

Oh this is juicy stuff.

awambawamb was doing some recon on the next place he was going to mount his enviromental demonstration. So, he goes to a prime source, Wikipedia!!!!

Finds out the police do not like enviromental protesters hanging around power plants and so forth. Especially when they are equipped to break and enter.

So, awambawamb is properly outraged that the police would arrest him before he could commit it epic display of anarchist tendancies at the local Nuclear Power Plant and he is rightfully enraged!!!!

At least let him have some fun before he is thrown in jail.

But I have found out the real reason for his rage. Here is the backstory. awambawamb was at his local football stadium and he was going to show the fans what a real pitch invasion looks like. He was proceeding to go full nude invasion mode, cartwheels and the full nine yards of shock value. Suddenly the usher knew of his plans and promptly ejected him from the match.

Awambawamb is still miffed that he was ejected for thinking about a full nude pitch invasion and that is just not right in a free society.

I so hope part 2 of this blog is the mug shot of awambawamb at the local jail house.

RISE UP MY FELLOW ANARCHIST!!!!!!!!!

Didn't you ever see Minority Report?
Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-09-13 21:02:05
We live in a pretty weird time where police have gone unscrutinized due to absurd concerns about terrorism and some specious belief that if we give police more authority they can be better able to protect us.

This shit is Bear Patrol on a larger scale.

You are no different than a protester in the eyes of law enforcement if you dare question their utility and methods. That's how far up their own asses they are.
Posted by pythrr on 2014-09-13 21:02:32
all police forces do this.

conspiracy to commit an offence is a not uncommon reason for arrest.
Posted by awambawamb on 2014-09-13 21:41:24
to every smart guy up here believing in the burden of proof...

possessing a pc is enough to be charged guilty of conspiracy against Jannifer Lawrence :D

driving a car just to discover new places could land you guilty of hiding some evidence of a crime. I did it in the first weeks, going from one nice little village to another - it's called "touring".

quarreling with your girlfriend means you can be guilty of Pistorius-ing her.

it would have been like arresting Ghandi while he walking for the street....
Posted by PainState on 2014-09-13 22:21:35
But

wa Gahandi really walking down the street?

Oh no good sir!!!!

He was walking to another one of his peaceful demonstrations with 10,000 of his followers right behind him.

So

of course the police will arrest him because they did not want his 10,000 friends rabble rousing in front of the palace.
Posted by pythrr on 2014-09-13 22:31:04
"possessing a pc is enough to be charged guilty of conspiracy against Jannifer Lawrence :D"

no it is not. please take less (or more, as appropriate) drugs, sir.

Posted by awambawamb on 2014-09-14 01:21:30
...then they should charge all those people going to the macdrive - it's just like driving through litter :D
Posted by Wreckage on 2014-09-14 03:53:30
The only thing strange about this is that the secret service feels the need to infiltrate some environmental protester group. Just from that wiki entry nothing strange can be deducted from the preventive action of the police... the article doesn't explain how police obtained the informations they decided to act on but to just draw that out of the article seems a bit random.. If something not being properly explained is a reason for outrage, I'd have to be outraged about every news article... or rather the guy who wrote it... but ok.. that ain't even a news article, it's wiki, it's supposed to be short and down to the historical context of what happened..
