an advice
*grumpy stuff ahead*

Today, in my G7-country, a 7yo child died of OTITIS.
You read it well - a ###### otitis (read it with the voice of Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction). The parents kept curing it with homeopatic remedies for 15 days of pain and fever before finally rushing him to the hospital. Too late, the pus had already reached the brain.
there are more details that could be told, but long story short that's what happened.

I know some of you folks have children. I used to take care of 6-10yo children in summer camps.

1) Homeopathy is NOT a cure.

and since it seems to be tranding those days, repetita juvant:

2) VACCINATE your children.

a good chunk of FUMBBLers are nerdy enough not to believe the crazy stuff about homeopathy and antivax, tho.

EDIT:
here's a (automagically translated to English) link if you've got some more minutes to spare.

UPDATE:
the parents are being processed for culpable homicide. there's hope after all.

I will probably get slammed now for this.
WTF are parents thinking by TRYING to treat them at home?????
This is why people get TRAINED as doctors etc.

Some religions that forbid certain things I also think are idiotic (told ya)

sorry if this offends anyone, But when it comes to saving a childs life, EVERYTHING should be done to save them. Sod religion, Ethnic origin or anything else

Poor child , dying in horrible pain because he was born to the wrong parents. They should be charged with murder with premeditation.

fully agree asterfix

religion is a plus that a grown mind can accept and comprehend. usually they forbid minor things (pork/crustacean/avocados) and in some cases are just condivisible choices to relieve some stress on the body.
this isn't about religion tho, it's more about pseudo-science taken as science. PAID pseudo-science - because it's quite easy to check the prices for those so-called "remedies"...

People who ignore the recommendations of scientists/experts are really the definition of moronic. They are the experts and you are not for a reason. I hope those parents get prosecuted for negligence and do some jail time. :(

Well, I belive in two things! Beer and religion!!!

Why I belive in beer is obvious, but not do I only belive in one religion, but everyone. Why? The only thing they have in common is that they all say that the other religions is fake, and you cant argue with that, can you?

And yes, I agree with awambawamb......

"Do you know what they call alternative Medicine which has been proven to work? Medicine."

The real issue is : did they learn the kid to play BB ? As long as it remains unknown please refrain to judge them... :-(

What a terrible story. And yes, please enlighten all people in this world about medicine, pros & cons of cures, etc., but I think...

"I hope those parents get prosecuted for negligence and do some jail time."

This goes too far. Until proven otherwise I assume, those parents meant no harm. If that is true, they suffer from that tragic death most of all (after the child has died, anyways). And they probably will for the rest of their lives. Have some pity for their poor souls (even if mislead by false beliefs).

Homeopathic medicine has its place in treating issues that can't be really treated. For instance in case of a cold.
If you got reason to believe it's something more you shouldn't do self treatment to begin with and see a doctor right away. Because the problem isn't whether you use real medicine or not when the actual problem is that you just treat the wrong thing.
So see a doctor, the doctor then prescribes a medicine and that's the one you should use.

Could you get it wrong and miss that your kid is really sick? Absolutely. I think that could happen to anyone. Not gonna judge about this case tho, since it's only an incomplete second hand account. Might be grave negligence. I got no pitch fork.

Hey, look on the bright side: at least it was just some 7-year-old kid who wasn't contributing anything to society and not some Nobel Prize-winning physicist. In a way, he was saved from having to grow up in a futuristic hellscape post-global-warming water planet full of cyborg presidents and rampaging drone armies.

The only solution is for people wanting to become parents to need a license

I have an idiot brother who is an anti-vaxer. He has four kids too. When I told him I did not want any of his kids around my newborn he became angry. He also a pot head who believes every conspiracy theory from chem trails to 9-11 truthers to fluoride in the water is a govt conspiracy.

I have no problem with alternate medicine as long as you are using it in addition to conventional medicine or in non-life threatening situations. If you want to buy the snake oil, I say go for it.

Doctors shouldn't necessarily be trusted either, though. When our 3rd daughter wasn't pooping as an infant my wife had to go to literally 17 different doctors to get a referral to a specialist, who eventually diagnosed what my wife already knew from her research: she had Hirschsprung's Disease. Our 1st daughter got krup and was hospitalized for 8 days in ICU, but prior to that we were told by numerous local docs not to worry about it. Canada's doctors are mostly on the government-subsidized gravy train and are more focused on patient quotas than on doing anybody any medical good. The bottom line is that when it comes to your kids, you do everything you have to. Doctors may have the answers, but they can't possibly care as much as you do.
