Great team, great country! Congrats!

Thoroughly deserved win for the best team in the world. That 5-1 loss to England saw them make all the right changes with their set up to produce the kind of players that made it possible.

Congratulations, and enjoy the hangovers Germans :D

Aregentina just looked Messi. :D

suck a bag of dicks, Argentina! Football 1 - 0 Thuggery.

Thank you friend. I highly appreciate this especially from someone from Greece.
Congrats to our team.
Posted by cdassak on 2014-07-14 00:04:44
It's just football mate, although I suspect that about 90% of Greeks were rooting for Argentina ;)

Best team in the tournament, so glad the come through in the end, same as Spain last time around. If not a big underdog suprise (Greece! in the Euros, brilliant!) at least let the best team win. :) Thank god it wasn't another France vs Italy!

Congrats Germany, folk have been waiting on this for years since the new gen broke through, well deserved.
Posted by gjopie on 2014-07-14 00:23:16
I can't believe Messi won the golden ball, though - how ridiculous is that? He's won it on reputation alone. He certainly didn't deserve it in this tournament.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-07-14 00:25:59
Yeah should have been James or Muller
Posted by DeZigma on 2014-07-14 00:29:58
A good game for a final!
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-07-14 02:44:51
"first euro team to win it outside the continent" Spain/South Africa. I Columbia looked the best for me, until that one messy match, Dutch also looked pretty good, however when the job needs to get done, the Germans are always there.
Posted by Wreckage on 2014-07-14 03:31:57
17 goals in 7 games.. has any team ever accomplished that?
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-07-14 03:35:45
No idea. However 10 goals in 6 games.....plenty have accomplished that. Germany, are deserved winners and a great side. They didn't impress in every game though, and certainly don't stand above every other team. This whole 'keeper sweeper' thing, was a disaster waiting to happen.
Posted by Wreckage on 2014-07-14 03:40:49
Thats how he was trained tho. The assistant coach said, Manuel is best capable to determine himself when to leave the goal and they wouldn't interfere and that they never were the least concerned when he did that.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-07-14 03:49:29
It's not him that's the problem! He's very good at it. It's the fact he has to do it that's the problem. It went wrong once or twice, but it could have been a a bigger problem. The Ghana, Algeria, France games; these were not very convincing matches at all.
Posted by Wreckage on 2014-07-14 03:54:17
*Shrug* Other teams would have been kicked out against France, that's the difference. No other team did convince more than the German team. But then again that's also true for the last two world cups. It would be boring if they would excell like Michael Schuhmacher in his best years :P.

GG, well played, CU for the rematch September 3rd.
Posted by Garion on 2014-07-14 09:57:45
aye best team won, I'm just glad they did it without it going to penalties. I love penalties but it sucks as a way to win the final. They need a different solution for the final game imo. Maybe in extra time after 5 minutes, each team has to remove one player every 5 minutes.
Posted by Verminardo on 2014-07-14 12:21:10
Germanz always win on penalty shootout anyway. ;-)

About Neuer, did you know...

On a more serious note, it is a great feeling to get so much appreciation from people all over the world. Germans are actually popular. That's still a pretty new experience, but I rather like it!

Great win and deserved one. Cheers :)

Well deserved Germany! Definitely the best side, though Netherlands looked very good for some matches. Teams like Colombia and Chile looked good too but clearly not that great comparing performances v Brazil. Messis didn't play so great but then again in close matches his goals and assists were crucial. Without him I doubt Argentina would have had a replacement good enough to get them through some of those rounds.
Posted by mike467 on 2014-07-14 15:09:27
Yeah, kudos to Germany what a great future that team has. As an Englishman I can only hope that one day we could have a tournament where we played even nearly that well.
The best team won no doubt there but credit to Argentina they made a game of it and had an impressive tourney too.
Posted by DeZigma on 2014-07-14 18:15:35
Well there is always a rise up and a falldown of all great teams. We saw it already...
Posted by Wreckage on 2014-07-14 18:25:02
Spain will be back. Shouldn't forget there was a Madridian CL final very recently, national team just has to replenish, take in younger players. Netherlands are certainly on the rise. Epic performance in this tournament, deserved to make final.
Posted by DeZigma on 2014-07-14 20:20:27
Yeah, CL of both Madrid clubs was aswome, but both have too many non-native players. More-and-more spanish players move to other legaues.

I guess Germany have had team-block-building. As there so many great players in many of the national teams (even in the teams which haven moved under the last 16th), means that maybe this specific atrribute made a great base for title.

Congrats from Argentina! Great team, great match. Well deserved.
Hope we get a rematch in 4 years!

Posted by Chainsaw on 2014-07-15 16:13:57
It's funny; if the Argies had scored 1 of those 3 ridiculously good chances, everybody would have said they were the best team and deserved to win. How fine the lines are that define us.

As for gratz to Germany? As an Englishman... I guess... as somebody famous once said, it's like picking between the 2 guys that your wife cheated with.

Did anybody see the behind the scenes footage of the German dressing room? Fascinating stuff.

I'm English and I love Germany. The country is amazing, obviously it has its problems but compared to the rest of the developed world it is light years ahead in every sense. I love the football team too. They play they best quality of football in the world and have some great players, though I wish Muller wouldn't dive so much.
