The only thing I hate in FUMBBL...
It's not CPOMB.
It's not picking.
It's not min maxers.
It's not KenThis or smallman (related to keggie's blog)
It's not whining.

it's when veteran coaches (who know better) 'call' a game to be over when it's not...

All mens try hard for all 16 turns.
Posted by koadah on 2014-12-20 14:00:47
Psychology? Trying to get you to ease off?

A comment on the likely odds?

Or is it just another kind of whining?

Unless it is actually whining I can't see a problem with it. ;)

There are several explanations but I don't really care to understand it, I just hate it. But that's just me.
I have done it once against Chainsaw in a smack semi. He scored in T16 and went 'gg, gl in the final' and all that but then got riot, score and a win in OT.
Even though an honest mistake I said to myself that I'll never do it again.

I agree, this can take what could be lighthearted banter about misfortune and turns it into "we must click stuff even though neither of us wants to anymore". It is the worst when experienced coaches do it. Especially in a major. When the game is far from over and they in fact go on to win it. >:|

I assume metagaming plays a role, but it's still something akin to waiting until 3:59 before ending turn. Don't do it!

I actually really pissed someone off doing this on turn 4/5 once but I was right and did lose 3-0..
Posted by cdassak on 2014-12-20 16:02:01
But you are always right, so what's new? :P
Posted by Wizfall on 2014-12-20 16:02:56
I agree it's very unpleasant, as people whining while currently leading.
It's not rare on Fummbl unfortunately unlike in most TT games.

Thats no Problem for me,i cant only stand That a coach says sorry after he killed someone . ( a friendly * in yar Face!!* its more what that dead player deserves as a sign of Respect for his Work )

One should always try to not give up til the last turn in a game that involves chance ofc.
Also a pros coaches attitude, for the most of them i guess its true - and ofc it should increase your win ratio if you dont leave out on any chance that might still come up and are just really determined with hanging on.

But as the ordinary day and life of a blood bowl coach can turn out to be - well we're all just insufficient humans in the clinch of that dreaded mind of nuffle.

I know on occasion i have hurt my own rules i set myself for the game and will do so in the future. Although im successful sticking to good ethics or a codex for the majority of time, i know realistically there just is a frustration potential in the game that seems pretty much incomparable in the TT world. So its just sane to give some reasonable tolerance for occasional meltdowns. ;D
Bitterness towards the opponent should be avoided at all times, always. But if it may have happened like 2-3 times in a year - well dont hang yourself over it. Just let nuffle suck it!

And like koadah suggested if someone may have treated you so maliciously that he whined to you! Then it may just be your time to whine back in his face viciously!

You know tho what i really hate/ fear? Server downtimes during the festive season! Christer you're walking on thin ice here! Dont funk it up, dont funk it up man...

Need to be clear about one thing, today's RRR final did inspire this blog but it's something that didn't actually happened in this game (opponent 'calling' the game). I guess that the many swings of fate and ensuing discussion somehow reminded me of some very premature 'gg' and other comments of similar nature I have gotten in previous games.
Posted by Harad on 2014-12-20 17:22:38
I'm going to adopt a different approach. As soon as the first dice roll goes in my favour I will say 'gg, I've won, sorry for your poor dice, good luck rebuilding the team'. See how that goes down.
Posted by albinv on 2014-12-20 17:41:40
lol - brilliant approach!
Posted by PaddyMick on 2014-12-20 17:41:58
I don't like it when my opponent gives up and starts clicking end turn without taking any action. If you want to be a good sportsman and still abide by site rules it puts you in an uncomfortable position.

Do you also click through while stalling the score? Do you start fouling? I once had this happen and just stalled for the win. His comment after: 'you could have scored a turn earlier so I could at least make a pass for spp'
- this after doing nothing for 5 turns. Grrrr
Posted by cdassak on 2014-12-20 18:13:34
@PaddyMick Trying to preserve the team by keeping them down when all is lost is perfectly fine in my book. I expect to be fouled in such an occasion but that is a risk that has to be taken into account when one decides to throw the towel in such a manner.
Posted by koadah on 2014-12-20 18:48:24
Interesting.

If I remember that it was you that posted this thread (unlikely) I'll be sure not to do it against you. ;)
Posted by cdassak on 2014-12-20 18:51:17
Hehe I said I expect to be fouled when I do it. I don't automatically foul when someone does it to me. Only on special occasions, players and coaches ;)
Posted by Wizfall on 2014-12-20 19:13:50
1.98 fouls per game without being huge is not bad at all, cdassask must be one of those people that think every single day is special :P
Posted by cdassak on 2014-12-20 19:24:24
In my defense, I play stunties a lot and several other races are suitable for fouling too ;)
Posted by albinv on 2014-12-20 20:07:02
Yeah 1.98 is okish. Make sure not to drop much below it tho.
I try not to let it sink much below 2 - otherwise i see it as an alert and sign of my coaching abilities starting to weaken.
Posted by pythrr on 2014-12-20 21:41:58
i find it hillarious
Posted by pythrr on 2014-12-20 21:44:08
@Sammler_der_Seelen

hehe, yeah -- me hates the "sorry I killed your mans" coaches too.

"If you don't wanna kilal them, don't blocka them!" ;)

Posted by Mr_Foulscumm on 2014-12-21 00:42:52
Clawpombs all game long.

Gets upset when T18 fouled.
Posted by PaddyMick on 2014-12-21 12:32:30
It's one thing doing noting when you have almost no chance of stopping a score in turn 14, or when you have 2 players on the pitch. I get that, it's fine and I do it myself. I was referring to times when they have enough players and enough time but choose to give up because things didn't go entirely their way.

It's like a concession without the penalties.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-12-21 13:06:25
Well.........there are possibly bigger penalties, it's against site rules.

Remember though, playing to save numbers for the next drive and giving up altogether are 2 separate things.
