Worst Christmas Party EVER!- Conclusion
SO...I turned up to work this morning and the big boss was waiting for me looking very very nervous, so I invited him for a chat in one of the meeting rooms.
I started off by apologising for my behaviour, which was unacceptable and I hoped I had not insulted or hurt him to badly. I told him it had to come out but the xmas party after barrel full of alcohol was not the right time to vent my rage and frustration.
He was massively relived and said he could understand my behaviour. He did not officially admit he or the directors had done anything wrong. But he did admit he was not happy as he had come under political pressure as the company did not want to blame the new country office ..... He did reassure me that all references to me and my team will be removed and I will not be linked to this claim and in fact now if anyone was going to get fired it was him.
Then he asked if I had talked to legal and risk regarding the claim, as apparently I had threatened to blow the lid on the whole thing and expose the claim form as utter fabrication, he seemed far more concerned about this rather the torrid of f-ing, barsteward , traitorous c u next Tuesday etc insults and me trying to punch his lights out . I said no , so he was mightily relived. (so I have a trump card up my sleeve now) .
Anyhow I told him that I was prepared to let it go and that I would give him a 2nd chance. ( well my other option is HR and the trade union , which will just lead to me get an apology and a couple of years compensation, but that is not even guaranteed, as I would never trust HR and the union is crap )
When the rest of the department arrived, I seemed to be a bit of hero . As everyone knows what happened and why it happened and all the other managers told me he deserved it and they were disgusted themselves when they found out.
Thankfully it all seems to have worked out in my favour, but I definitely do not want to go through that again. With a bit more luck there will be a little sweetener to keep me happy in my bonus and pay rise after Christmas :D
Plus I doubt he will cross me ever again as he was shaking like a leaf during the entire meeting , I am not sure anyone has ever stood up to him before.

@ Dezigma my German colleagues already told me this today ``Man trifft sich zweimal im Leben`` but they interpreted that this was my second chance and the tables have been turned on the big boss. Do not worry I am not taking it for granted I am going to let this go, it is not worth holding a grudge .

It is probably inevitable, unfortunately that is the nature of the beast. But 1st he will need to regrow his balls and there are lots of far more easier targets than me.

Just keep in mind anything said word of mouth is nonbinding. Any accusations and any "promises" need to be in writing. but yes, if you get that sweetener in your bonus, that means they want you around.

Glad to hear you got away and can even feel as the winner of this showdown. Maybe justice prevailed this time. However, it could easily have totally backfired, might even have cost you the job.

Fingers crossed I do not get stitched up again... I will remain cautious and it has encouraged me to consider my options and see what else is out there.
