Why so many missing the Black Box matches?
I have two teams tied up in matches that could otherwise be having fun and playing great games in the Black Box. I look at these coaches pages and they have long lists of teams, many that are scheduled to play some time ago.

So is this habitual for some players? Do I need to download some blacklist of BlackBox benchers who don't play their scheduled games? I don't want to have to do that...

a lot of box coaches just don't show up to the match if they don't like the match up. it's the downside of box. in ranked, you at least get an opponent who desires to play the match up you both agreed to.

Thankfully I've yet to encounter this, but I had wondered about those. People really can be lame. Anyway, play vampires and people will always want to play you :D

I wouldn't say a lot.

It hasn't happened to me once in about 600 games there...

You need to notify an admin when the opponent doesn't show up, either through the irc admin channel or send a support ticket.

Haven't happened to me either though.

If the player does it often (more than once) i understand they get a talking to from the admins. worse can and has happened. just get your free win if they are online yet ignoring you.
Posted by WardenUSA on 2012-11-30 07:15:30
This rarely happens

We take notes, and repeat offenders are invited to speak with a Security Monkey. Many no shows are new players who don't know how things work. We're aware that some folks might deliberately no show to avoid a particular matchup, but IMO it's not all that common.

This is rare but I have seen it to. I think this is mainly because of cyanide people. There are a lot if problems with that in their game and these people are trying to dodge games here too.

yes follow the disconnection procedure:
https://fumbbl.com/help:DisconnectionProblems

and if they ignore you, report them to admins (at least if they have a lot of unplayed boxgames)

that said, i failed to show up at least once in Box as i forgot i had activated :) i am a confused man...

I for one managed to miss a box match exactly once when I got distracted by the television, and then a host of other things, and I've had one or two other near misses where I jerked myself back to IRC just in time to see some inquiring messages from 5-10 minutes ago, so if it's just once it my be a fluke, but with that many unplayed box games...

Yeah report 'em to the admins, get your free concession, and then after that let them deal with it. If they do it too often it'll raise alarm bells, so don't you worry about justice being served...

@Reisender. Just the once, on 2012-08-31 16:09:34 :)

See it's all logged and monitored!

@hmouse: ohhhh my god big brother is watching me :D

You say Black Box but one of those guys also has 6 Ranked teams scheduled too.

The other guy has 6 games played total & zero wins.

If the coach has not shown up within 10mins of the draw you can get the match cancelled. Hopefully in time for the next draw.

I have encountered this issue three times I think.
Everytime with very new and win % wise very bad players.
I believe it comes from a misunderstanding of the rules, not understanding the mechanisms ie how to get to the game and very often includes a language barrier. One of the issues were with a Spaniard the other an Italin I actually got through to - and managed to explain how thinks worked here - he didnt know that and were really bad at english.

The other games I have simply had cancelled from the admins. Waiting a week to get a fre win - simply isnt worth it for me.

I would like to see some sort of notification on activation stating clearly a summary of the rules and consequences... and a link to more info.

I've suffered this too, but mainly from noob coaches who you can't be too cross with... but I've not encountered this with more experienced coaches - then again, everyone is keen to play me as I'm on a rubbish vein of form at the moment... :)

Exactly. I've seen this only twice in about 500 box games. Just new players misunderstanding things.

Here is where this site and the admins shine. Try irc admin channel first, ask them to have the game unscheduled, and to take note of the infraction. If no reply in admin channel after a few minutes, follow the disconnection procedure link above and file a report (nick named 'a ticket' in the forum, but not actually called a ticket on the help page) You can then trust the admins to deal with it in a fair but firm way.

But it's certainly not the norm around here.

That's harsh.

Some guys have bad luck.

I have played thousands of games in the box, and I can't say that has happened.

If they don't show (which is rarely) they usually had a real life issue come up, or forgot they activated & took a ranked game.

Id say maybe 1/100 matches I have to ask admins to unschedule a game, which could be for many different reasons. 1 out of 100 is a very small number.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2012-11-30 17:29:01
"or forgot they activated & took a ranked game."

If you get caught doing that, your account will be instantly locked, and you'll have to go to admin to explain why you were looking for a match whilst activating in box. If you activate in box, you may not look for a match or take a match in another division.

If you did this twice, expect a 3 day ban and/or your box team retired, plus the possibility of having the match you are playing conceded against you.

Think I have missed one box game aswell, the page simple did not show on refresh that i had a game, that or I an idiot and did something wrong :) both option are plausible :)
I have had around 5 people been no shows towards me. Does not feel like it happens Very often though
Posted by CW on 2012-12-01 17:40:46
Yeah I think it is a misrepresentation to say that it happens all the time, or that a lot of box coaches do this. I have maybe had 2 times out of many many box games where my opponent did not show up. Could be hundreds of reasons why, and it isn't too difficult to fix.

I do recommend reporting it though. That way if it becomes a pattern, the admins have the ammunition to deal with it.

Is it me or the OP doesn't have Box teams? His two pending games are with Ranked teams. :)

But yeah, the same happens in R too, but fortunately it's generally an exception. I almost missed a game myself: I accepted a game but I got redirected to the normal gamefinder page as when your opponent declines it. Or maybe I simply did something stupid. Fortunately, he was on IRC and poked me when I asked for a game there.
