First Tournament Win
I finally got in my tournament (145 Cup XII) late, Saturday night. Facing off against a very nice guy with a pretty straight forward 4 Saurus 7 skink Lizard team.
It started off like usual. He sets up spread out, so I'm going to do a flank push on the right. We then of course roll perfect defense.
I went ahead and ran my play to the right and that drew most of his team that way. So on turn 2, I reversed direction completely and ran a breakaway down the left sideline.
He was able to get there with 3 skinks and knock the ball loose. So I blitz one of my gutter runners and push a skink out of the way. Dodge into the ball where 2 skinks were at, pick it up, dodge again into a 1 TZ space, then dodge again and skip into the end zone. For an early 1-0 lead on turn 4.
The next kickoff went deep into his zone, so it took him 2 turns to get it up to the LOS and build his skink cage. Problem with skink cages they are pretty easy to break. So he tried a break away with a rear guard, but seemed to miss my linemen on the left flank totally unguarded. A sweep down and they knocked the ball loose. A runner picks it up and tosses it down field to a lineman all alone. If he catches it he doesn't score but gets far enough down field to be unreachable. Well, he drops it, and the scrum ensued that ended the half.
The 2nd half started better as I got all 3 of my players out of the KO zone. It didn't stay that way for long as his Saurus led cage pushed into my territory and knocked out a runner. But he left his ball carrier right next to a stunned lineman, so a blitz knocked the ball out.
Another quick pick up by a gutter runner, toss downfield to my 3rd runner and he sprints down field and out of reach of even his speedy skinks. And on turn 4 I trot in for a 2-0 lead. So with only 4 turns to get 2 scores, things are looking pretty good.
Then with an incredibly bad kick I lay the ball right into his heavy flank and he pushes down field hoping for a 2 turn TD. But his skink didn't have it in him to go for it twice and he fumbles right at the goal line. I then of course pick it up, toss it to a gutter runner and he sprints away. I didn't think he was reachable, but a skink made it to him and pushed him 1 square.
At this point all I need to do is a 2+ re-rollable dodge to skip into the endzone but for some reason I decide blocking the bad skink out of the way is easier. He then blocks me out of bounds and a last ditch effort to pick up the ball fails and the game ends with the 2-0 score.

still a great game and I'm very happy with moving to the 2nd round. I earned enough to pick up my 4th gutter runner and suffered no serious injuries so I'm pretty happy with that.
Next round promises to be interesting as our teams are almost exactly the same. Skaven on Skaven round 2, coming soon.
