End of an era
A few days ago, I posted a blog entry about the accomplishments of Melwyn Cheeseheart. After 97 games with the team, she finally passed away during an epic and brutal SMACK Legends game against Museum Murmur.
She was heroic during the game, and scored the first touchdown for the Sammiches. After Bob was one-dice KO'ed with the ball in the Kemris' half, and with only 4 flings left on the pitch, she and Ernst Swiftoak rushed toward the ball to offer its first step to victory to the team.
She was blocked on the next turn by a Blitz-Ra who PO'ed her to death. That was a shock for all her fans who had specially came from the Moot to see her in a tournament. The atmosphere was electric in the stadium. Pretzels and dumplings started flying all over the arena. The referee was grabbed by the crowd and beaten to death with Pfungzig smoked sausages. Riots started all over the city, causing the death of fifty-two locals, three grocery stores owners, 4 bartenders, and one carpet seller.
The field had became so slippery after that that the Murmurs failed two GFI in a row to score their first touchdown. The Sammiches advanced to the semi-final.
Puggy Baconbreath and Deeproot Stongbranch who had came to see the game promised the team that, next match against the terrific Chainsaws, they would replace Melwyn and Sam, who suffered his third serious concussion during this match.
Bob Berserkling is now the last member of the original trio, but he swore he would keep leading the team to victory in Pipin and Melwyn's memory.
Next round against Chainsaw: no date confirmed yet, but probably tomorrow. Come and boo or cheer for the Sammiches, and don't forget your pretzels!

My condolences! I had just joined the spectators' ranks when the horrible event occurred. :-(
I must say though, that I tend to not agree with the apothecary's assessment that nothing could have be done to save her. But he's the expert on that field, I guess. ;-)

An honourable death for a great fling. I hope you roll some more stat freaks soon, Bob's looking lonely out there!

@ Rabe: yeah, I know not using the apo to save her may sound crazy when you don't play flings (or even when you do :P) and that definitely was a tough choice, but I think in the context, that was the best thing to do.
The Sammiches had scored only one touchdown when it happened, and the Murmurs had 10 or 11 turns to make it a draw. With no apo left, I may not have played as aggressively as I did (using Stand Firm with my trees even tough that was offering free blocks on them simply to trap half of his team around them, throwing Bob everywhere on the pitch, etc), which could have very well costed me the game.
I still had my apo at the end of the game, but that was not something I could have foreseen. So yeah, her death may have been the price to pay for the victory, and I don't regret this choice at all.
However, the team will need some serious rebuilding after the tournament. :)

Oh, I thought you'd have played recklessness anyway. ;-D I get why you did it and I really admire the courage to let go. I don't know if I ever could in case of a special player like that...
