Just a silly idea I was working on briefly. I know it'll never get implemented, but I like it none the less. (Partly inspired by E.L.F.) Basically, it's a means of encouraging coaches to play a larger variety of teams. Here it goes....
A player can earn an extra MVP award as a "Tour Bonus". In order to earn this award, the player must be at a game against each opponent of a given Tour. As per a normal MVP award, the player does not need to actually partake in the game, simply be available to play (no MNG or niggling out). A player can only earn each award once, but all players on a team can earn each award seperately. The Tours can be completed in any order and the games do not need to be consecutive.
The Tours are themed and are as follows:
Tour 1) Greenskins: Orc, Ogre, Goblins, Chaos Dwarves (hobgobins)
Tour 2) Elven Lands: High Elf, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Elf
Tour 3) Alliance: Human, Halfling, Dwarf, Vampire (to fit them in. Besides... Thralls.)
Tour 4) Forces of Chaos: Chaos, Nurgle's Rotters, Skaven, Lizardmen (Chaos is random, giant intellegent lizards seem pretty random to me)
Tour 5) Destruction: Khemri, Necromatic, Norse, Amazon (see notes.)
This has a few effects. First, it promotes playing against a variety of opponents, as you can earn extra SPPs for your players just by playing a wider range. Secondly, it allows that extra lineman or new player to earn some SPPs with being pushed to succeed. Finally, as fluff, it adds some realism (In Bloodbowl? Unthinkable!) as it gives players that play a wider range of opponents more skills, representing them facing a variety of tactics. Plus, Tours could give no more than 25 SPPs to a player, and it would be 20 games to get all those, so it wouldn't break the learning curve.
As for notes, I don't like where the Amazons are fit in. They're kind of wedged in. I was going to put Vamps there to fit them in with the other undead teams, but Amazons didn't fit with the alliance either. Maybe they're just mad at the world....
Secondly, Undead teams are not included. I think that when Necromatic, Khemri, and Vampire teams were added, the Undead should have been discarded. Those three teams fill the role nicely, and are more balanced than Undead. Besides, for you Undead lovers, you can always think of the Undead teams as the Wild Card that you can't predict or learn from.
As I said, just an idea. Let me know what you think.
