It's been a bad few days. I keep getting turned down for no real reason, even though I try to offer fair matches. The challenges I get cause the sweet scent of cherries to waft from my monitor. And, the games I have gotten have been bloodbath losses. To take a break, I tried speccing a few games. Many were unremarkable. One had a coach swearing at not only his opponent, but the spectators watching because they were cheering his opponent and not him.
Disheartened, I was moping through gamefinder, not really expecting to find anything. I stumbled upon a High Elf team that needed a match with Norse (among other races) for this round of E.L.F. I had a norse team I hadn't played in a bit! They're close in Team Strength! He's in E.L.F., so I can mock him if he refuses! Let the challenge be drawn!
Randblade (the lucky coach) turned out to be a worthy opponent and a good sportsman. The match was decided mostly by luck, and he was willing to keep joking at himself. After the game he thanked me, despite the fact that not only did he lose the game, which was a do-over to try for a better E.L.F. score, he failed to make a single casualty on my AV 7 players.
It's that spirit of sportsmanship and acceptance of the fact that it's all just a game to be enjoyed that helped turn my spirits around. It's good to know that coaches that want to have fun and play ball are still waiting out there.
