Consistency is King(Show us the Guidelines!)
Let's pause the scenario here for a moment, because this is what really annoys me. The coach is asking what the penalty is for breaking the rules in order to take the punishment rather than following the rules. This is, to me, incredibly disrespectful to both the staff and the community as a whole. I mean, the rules aren't there to give people alternative ways to sort out issues. This kind of behaviour is something that I will not accept and the answer to coach A's question is essentially: "Either you finish the match, or you find somewhere else to play Blood Bowl". Most of the time, it takes this person 30 minutes of complaining and muttering to realize that we're serious about it and the match often ends up being resolved.

Am I wrong to take this position? Is it unfair to threaten to permanently ban someone for, what in my mind is essentially trying to abuse the rules of the site for their own gain? Even if the rules breach is the first incident in several years for the coach? Maybe it is, but I personally think the rules are quite reasonable and fair to the community as a whole. Yes, mistakes happen and some people may be penalized for things they are not actually guilty for. And a lot of people get away with breaking the rules as well.. However, I do think that the staff around here does a remarkably good job dealing with people on a daily basis. I dare you to find another free ad-free site with our level of support. In fact, I think we're better than most community sites on the net in that respect.

One of the major gripes and beefs people have with admins is they aren't consistent with applications of punishments.

Example: I lost power and got banned for a month from Smacks. I accepted it because I was told that ban because it was the rule (although these rules are no where to be found by the Fumbbl community)

Example: Coach K gets banned for 2 weeks for having at least 3 accounts.

Are those punishments equitable? Are the "crimes against Fumbbl" even on the same scale? I personally don't think so.

Now to get to my point (about f'n time). If someone asks what the punishment is for not finishing the game, it should be the same someone who didn't ask and just played a different game (instead of finishing the dropped game). The only difference is one person can claim ignorance.

That is why I propose guidelines be set out for admins to follow and for the community to see. If you already have these guiedlines, then SHARE them. Right now there is a definate appearance of admins making decisions based on mood and who their buddy is. Note I said guidelines, not rules. This gives Admins leeway and flexability, like in the situation Christer mentioned. It may even make some of the arguments you have in the admin channel less drawn out.

Those of you that PMed me telling me that you "agreed with me" about the admins being jerks, you misread what I wrote. I don't think they are jerks, I think they do a thankless job in a medium that allows for untold, faceless abuse. I wouldn't want their job, nor could I do it. I appreciate them and thank them, and I like to make sure I tell that when I get a chance.
