31 matches in 31 days - now January is complete
I had to really push hard to catch up, after missing a few days to travel at the start of the year, but I completed my goal of averaging 1 Black Box Trophy game through January, and what nicer way to finish than with a win?

Substantially happier now my diet has diversified from goblins (a bit):

2018 box performance:
19 games, 2 wins, 6 draws (so a 4:23:73 win/draw/loss ratio)
January 2019:
31 games, 4 wins, 4 draws (so a 13:13:74 win/draw/loss ratio)

Interestingly, my loss rate has stayed pretty stable. I guess there's some emotional benefit to getting a higher win:draw ratio, but I do feel like I've improved a bit through playing so many games in a short period of time. I can at least recognise some of my own flaws, and also (sometimes) see my opponents exhibiting the kind of errors I was making earlier on.

Still don't know how to play for or against Undead. Or Chaos. Or Dwarfs. Or Chaos Dwarfs. So there's a lot more to learn, but at this point in my life I'm quite happy and confident. (Wait for the post after I roll 32 consecutive double skulls...)

Thanks to everyone for advice on goblins, advice on team design, the 145, the SWL, the whole nine yards. Only 93 games left to go!

I do really enjoy your blogs - please do keep them up. They're great reading - it's a complicated world but glad you are finding your way through it with good humour and positivity!

One of my New Year's resolutions was to play more on FUMBBL, and I've only managed 8 games so far, so kudos on your discipline.

I'm not sure there is a way to play against dwarves with goblins :p

Dwarves vs goblins: easy: 3 bribes, induce an extra ball and chain and chainsaw, win the coin toss, receive the ball, roll perfect dice for 8 turns and score just before the half with every player on the other team in the hospital.

Well, that's the theory :-)

Dwarves are horrible, but actually you really, really, really DO NOT want 3 bribes against them. Nor any extra stars.

Because if you've got that, you're facing 150k TV+ of extra mb and guard, or a dwarven bench, neither of which you want to see if you actually are going to get anything out of the game.

And if I had that much, I'd take Ripper ;)
