Using GIMP
No this is not a perverted post!!

Does anyone know if you can combine 2 images together on GIMP?
I have a image/logo I want to use, but also have specific style of writing I want to use.
For instance. I do some weird bubble writing. Save it. Can I then place that on top of logo?
If so, How?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can. There are ways of doing it with layers and masks and stuff, but for me, the simplest way is to make the background transparent on whichever image you want in the foreground, then just copy and paste it over the other one.

xnoelx is correct. Open the background image, then go to -> open -> as layers, and select the image you want on top. In the layers dialog, right click the top image layer, and select -> add alpha channel (this will make stuff you delete transparent), then delete all the stuff you don't need on that layer.
After wards you can flatten the image in layers -> flatten image to make it to one single image.
If you have transparency in the image, remember to export to a file type that support it i.e. *.PNG or *.gif.

Hope that helps.

Yes. If you need to cut it out, use the wizard select or lasoo select tools. Pro-tip: holding control or shift when using the lasoo makes that current 'loop' either get removed or added to the existing select.

You can just copy/paste to combine.

GIMP is awesome.

See, truckerpunk is getting into that layers stuff I tend to avoid. My method only works if the background is all one colour. Then you just go to colour/set colour to alpha, and choose that background colour.

this would have made a better forum post. but yes, many coaches here will help if you just ask

"this would have made a better forum post. but yes, many coaches here will help if you just ask"

This makes a ridiculous forum or blog topic. Why the hell ask FUMBBL when there are help guides all over the internet?

This coach needs his hand held and guided on absolutely every single subject; even using google it seems!

heh... good on Chainsaw for letting the drunk and defrocked harvestmouse berate someone for asking a question in a blog, rather than making the same faux pas twice... ;)

+1 to all the helpful posts. Agreed: GIMP is great.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-02-15 09:12:47
No it's not that I'm trying to berate him for using the blog feature. It's just, why ask on here and wait patiently for the answers, when there are 10 youtube videos on it that you can access instantly and visually take you through each step at the click of a button.

It's just plain daft. The video's going to be much better and much quicker. A FUMBBL specific GIMP question, I can understand, but not something as generic as this.

For his own good, he needs to look for things by himself, rather than running to the blogs or forums every 5 minutes.

Harsh yes, but that's the reality.

Wish there was a way to just delete idiots like harvestmouse!!!

A lot of people on here use gimp. Have experience in using it. So a simple question BEFORE I LOG OFF FOR THE NIGHT. on a blog I am FREE to use at any point. This way next day or at anytime I can refer back to it.

WTF has it got to do with you what anyone asks in a blog? No longer an admin.
And yet again,no nice or helpful things to say. Instead just Troll a blog or another forum post. Get a life!!!

Thx for the HELPFUL comments guys.

same thing as asking other coaches for tips etc on teams.

Why ask when there is a play guide for most races. Simple. it's called EXPERIENCE.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-02-15 15:37:46
You're breaking site rules there, I'd watch it. You really don't get what I say or do at all.

As a GIMP user, I've probably helped you the most. That's if you're smart enough to follow my advice. But I doubt you'll see it like that or change your approach to learning about new things and continue with this hand to mouth style of completing tasks, pity.

breaking site rules?

why not a simple

"look on youtube. it has some clips to help" instead of your harsh comments you normally post?

explain need for this comment?

This coach needs his hand held and guided on absolutely every single subject; even using google it seems!

how is that helpful in any way except to be-little someone?

it has nothing to do with you what I post in a forum thread or my OWN blog as long it doesn't effect site rules. If I have a question about anything I will ask experienced users.

So unless you have anything helpful or useful to say, please don't comment on my blogs or threads. (which will still coming)
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-02-15 17:59:20
Firstly, you need to calm down, and stop with the attitude.

You really don't get it. You have broken the site rules by calling me an idiot.

Secondly, I am not trolling, and very rarely do I troll. My comment was on topic and relevant to the post above it. Whether you like it or not, is irrelevant and doesn't make it a troll.

Thirdly, what planet are you on to say that you are free to post whatever you want on the forums and blogs, but I'm not allowed to comment on them! Seriously? You really don't understand blogs nor forums if that's the case.

Fourth, clearly you have very little experience if any working GIMP. At worse no experience, at best minor photo editing or cropping. It's a complicated bit of kit, you aren't going to learn anything with it by following directions like this (even though Truckerpunks are very good). You really need to start at the beginning with tutorials and start learning properly.

Fifth, you obviously haven't put any legwork into this. Just posting your exact question into google got more than adequate answers and tutorials as the first hits, I mean seriously.

Why use this site to answer something experts already have? I mean you may get lucky, which you kind of did (but I have my doubts you'll be able to replicate Truckers advice as you have absolutely no knowledge on how to work GIMP).

It's like coming here and saying 'Ok guys, buying a new car next week, let me know which one I should get and I'll go and pick it up'. You don't do that, you go to the correct place for that sort of information.

I shouldn't need to say 'go look on youtube' and in fact if I did, I'd probably still be in the same boat as I'm in now. It's obvious you should do that as a first port of call, isn't it?

If you had googled it, you'd have got the answer straight away, and helpful videos you could copy whilst you did your image. That, is not rocket science, they are simple study skills. It's simple logic and the willingness to do your own leg work, rather than relying on everyone else to do it for you.

However I'll respect your wish (no reason why I should really) and not comment further on this blog, there's little point anyway.

Thanks to everyone for their help.
HM I went onto youtube and watched a few videos. Took a while as the question I needed help with (specific part) wasn't on there). However after a lot of trail and error I have uploaded 2 new team logos with this new wording on.
Nothing amazing by any means. But it is a start
